Arizona leads 26-21 at the half

Cal is playing without Asha Thomas. Bears are shooting 28% from the floor, including 2-8 from Kristen Anigwe.

This is starting to look eerily similar to two years ago where Cal went 9-2 non-conference before traveling down to the Arizona schools to start the Pac 12 schedule, After losing to a ranked ASU squad they traveled to Tucson where they were upset by Arizona. The season unraveled and they went 4-14 in conference. The second half of today's game could be pivotal for the Bears season.

Cal down by 10 shortly after half. Continue to under-perform. But Thomas is a bigger loss than many might think.

Cal woke up, Arizona reverts to normal, and the bears take the lead.

Cal goes on a 12-0 run and might salvage its season.

38-37 Bears end of 3rd quarter

Cal 53-51 Final

Cal escapes by the skin of their teeth, failing to score in the last 4 minutes and nearly blowing an 8 point lead. Arizona missed a shot at the buzzer.

Mikayla Cowling was the only Cal player in double figures with 19 points, including 5-9 from beyond the arc. She was only 9-29 this season prior to today, but has become the clear leader of the team since the BYU game December 16. Freshman Keanna Smith had 9 assists for the Bears.

The season is saved for now, but Cal must pull things together for next weeks home stand against the Washington schools if they want to stay in the top half of the Pac 12

Asha Thomas missed today's game for the Bears due to concussion protocol. Hopefully she will be cleared in time for next weekend's games.

Also a correction. Keanna Smith actually had 10 assists, not 9 as I had mentioned in he recap. Congrats to the freshman, just 2 points and 6 rebounds short of a triple-double.
