One good thing about congress being so dysfunctional, some copyrighted works have entered the public domain for the first time in 20 years!

Anything published in 1923 is now freely available for use in the US. You can sing "Who's Sorry Now" or "Yes! We Have No Bananas" on your Youtube channel without paying royalties or clearing it with anyone. Other new public domain works include the film Safety Last with Harold Lloyd (that's the one where he hangs from face of the clock tower), the book Bambi, Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (you know, "miles to go before I sleep"), and Constantin Brâncuși’s "Bird in Space".

Also included, is Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Links," the second appearance of Hercule Piorot.

What does Congress being dysfunctional have to do with it? The article you linked says "under the terms of the Sonny Bono Copyright Act" (which was passed in 1998).

Congress could have extended the term of copyrights again and many expected them to.

Books published from 1923 to 1941 can be scanned in by libraries and made available if they are no longer being published. I think they should do that with any books that are no longer published (either in print or eBook) and there can't be any case made that they will be in the future.

Books from 1923 to 1941 Now Liberated!
