I am kind of glad this one isn't on TV - have a feeling it will be ugly.

Maybe not. Jessica Shepard rolled an ankle and is a gametime decision: https://twitter.com/AnthonyAnders11/status/943176361136611330

If she cannot play, Notre Dame is down to 7 scholarship players. And one of those, Jackie Young, recently broke her nose in practice and played with an ill-fitting mask last game that greatly affected her play. ND has vowed to get a better mask, but the mask she wore last game was all they could get for last game because of the short notice.

Well, it still might be "ugly" but in a different sense than I think Marquette Fan originally intended.

Marquette redshirt freshman Lauren VanKleunen has been wearing a mask the last few games herself - I have no idea when or how she suffered her injury.

Maybe Marquette will surprise me but I am expecting an ND blowout win.

ND 7/23 shooting, including 1/10 from the arc, in the first Q. They're lucky they aren't behind by more. Trust me, it has nothing to do with great Marquette defense. Defense is a concept totally absent from this run and gun playground game. I doubt Muffet is happy.

Marquette leads 23-15 at the of 1.

I'm guessing the Irish got an ear full from McGraw at the break between quarters. The defense has really picked up and ND has scored 8 straight to start the 2nd period and tie the game

Well, one thing I can say is that Marquette is not shy about shooting. Anytime, from anywhere on the court. No shame.

They're not boring, that's for sure.

There is something to be said for not boring.

ND leads 38-37 at the half.

Marquette's strategy evidently is that if they can make it a 160 shot game, they have a chance to make more, or at least more 3s, than their opponent.

It appears they desperately want to avoid being forced into a half court game.

Marquette with only one FTA in the half. They're not going to get any ND players in foul trouble, and they're lucky ND is missing most of their FT's.

I'm not sure why ND ever comes out of its zone D. I don't know why we everyone doesn't play zone all the time against Marquette. It causes them problems and slows down their pace.

And no sooner did I write about playing zone when Spignola, who has only played six minutes in the game, comes in off the bench and nails four 3 pointers, and Marquette has the lead.

I think the announcers said she had only made three all year, and now made four in just a few minutes.

Blckton basically put down her head, charged to the rim into traffic, forced up the shot, missed, and Shepard got the rebound.

Time out, ND's ball, 19.9 seconds, 19 on the shot clock.

Mabrey dribbled around WAAAAAY too long, Young had to rush a shot, and we're going to overtime.

I doubt that's what McGraw drew up in the timeout.

Typical MU - teasing me to think they actually have a shot and then lose anyway.

actually, the choke was on the previous ND possession when they got an o-board and were fouled. The MU player never turned to look for a body to block out and thus allowed Westbeld an easy rebound. Not unlike their win vs SC in the tourney a few years back when they lucked out with an oboard and score because one of the Cocks failed to block out.

Damn, I can't remember names worth a shit anymore. Evil or Very Mad

ETA: 2.5 hrs later- Cable! And I can see the Cock who effed up, but the name refuses to materialize...there's and R and an S in it, i think. Sure, I could google it, but that's no fun.

Fitting as I figure this series was setup to be her homecoming game next season.
