The A-Sun had accepted North Alabama as a new member for 2018-2019 so they will remain at 8 teams with USC Upstate leaving.

Well, that's an interesting cultural shift. Isn't the Big South mostly private and various flavors of Christian?

Also, how many HBCUs have left the traditionally HBCU conferences?

On the D1 level Tennesse State in the Ohio Valley conference. Hampton moving to the Big South is the second. Now on the lower level several NAIA HBCU's have gone to more traditional conferences that have local ties and closely related area.

And OTOH, also on the D-II level, mostly-white Chowan is in a conference with otherwise HBCUs (the CIAA) since moving up from D-III.

Sets up a nice cross-state (and potentially a little bit vicious) rivalry between Hampton and Liberty.
