Predictions for next week:
Oregon UP

You don't say how this happens. Only way it happens is if a team from the Top 8 drops. So either there'd be a big upset of one of the teams in the Top 7, or a relatively minor upset of #8 Texas to Oklahoma St.

I think it's more likely Oregon drops rather than go up, and most likely just stays the same.

Well the prophet rAf turned out to be right (except she never detailed how it would happen). A big upset of South Carolina by Missouri dropped them 5, just enough to bring Oregon up 1.

Gotta say I am surprised by the love for Oregon over South Car, who have beaten Maryland and Duke and Rutgers, the only similar team was Tex A&M who they both beat and Oregon got by UCLA, kinda strange.

Week 9

Same Top 8 as last week. Here's how the Bottom 17 faired.

Stanford and Arizona St sneak back in.

Green Bay and USF out

Predictions for next week:
Oregon UP correct
Ohio St DOWN stayed same
Oregon St DOWN correct
Duke DOWN (playing AT Louisville LOST to Louisville but went UP?
Oklahoma St UP stayed same
Stanford UP
went back down

Oregon beat UCLA and went up
Ohio St almost got beat by Michigan (which is how they would have gone down)
Oregon St lost and went down
Duke got beat but went up? (yes, they did mount an unsuccessful comeback vs Louisville and beat NC State)
Ok.St won but stayed the same
Stanford lost in conference. Oh well.

This is Michigan's longest streak in their history of the A.P....hanging on by fingernails but still there after 10 weeks.

While I said from the outset that my trees were over-rated, I'm trying to figure out how Cal, who is 2-2 against the same teams that the Cardinal are 3-1, is still in? On the other hand, when you look at who the others are who are just out, you have to think both teams are top 30 anyway.

And I didn't expect SoCar to plummet quite so far. Usually a loss against another top 20 team on the other's home court is worth a 2 or at most 3 place drop.

And Rutgers moving up based on wins against PSU and Illinois. Laughing

I agree with you on Cal vs, Stanford. Right now Stanford is the better team and should be in the Top 25. I still believe that Cal can come together, but they looked bad without Thomas against Arizona, who was out under concussion protocol. I fear if she is unable to play this week Cal could lose to either Washington or Washington St.

As for South Carolina, I think it is hard to pick among the top teams. I wouldn't have Baylor ranked that high since they don't have a very good win (best win Stanford without McPhee). But even though Missouri isn't a bad loss, it is worse than any of the other 7 teams ranked ahead of them. The one team I think is under-ranked is Oklahoma St, who I would have closer to 15. Finally, I find it interesting that Missouri moved up 3 spots after losing to LSU and beating South Carolina. I wonder where they would have been if those two games were reversed.

Villanova and Stanford out

That's a decent move up for ASU. Expected up, but not that much.

Totally agree here, not sure why Cal is in.

Rutgers and Arizona State benefited from several teams just ahead of them losing.

I wonder if Louisville's win is impressive enough to garner some #1 votes

Well, 4 of the top 11 have lost so far and the week is only half over. Still have the Friday, Saturday, Sunday games.

Gonna be some changes in next week's polls I expect.

Cal at 21 is too high.

Georgia being unranked is wrong. All they have done is beat everyone they've played except two top 10 teams, and they just went on the road and beat #16 Texas A&M. They are only 3 points behind Rutgers for #25, but they deserve more respect. At least the voters gave some respect to another Georgia school.

Here's my rough estimate of the new AP Top 25

1. Connecticut

2. Mississippi St

3. Baylor

4. Louisville (first loss only by one pt. Destroyed ND head-to-head)

5. Notre Dame

6. Oregon

7. Texas

8. South Carolina (Wilson is back!)

9. Florida St

10. Missouri

11. Tennessee

12. Ohio St

13. UCLA

14. Maryland

15. Texas A&M

16. Michigan

17. Duke

18. Oregon St

19. Green Bay

20. West Virginia

21. Oklahoma St

22. California

23. Georgia

24. Arizona St

25. Stanford

Out: Rutgers, Iowa
In: Georgia, Stanford

Sounds pretty good. I'd have TN ahead of MO.

Id also have them ahead of So. Car , Tennesee's losses are to formidable opponents . There drop should not be as huge as they hung tight with each opponent over the last 4 . Easily could have went 3-1 in that stretch .
