Collen was an assistant at Louisville when Angel McCoughtry was recruited

I wonder if Tom would be one of her assistants?

This is the last vacancy, correct? I guess Vickie Johnson won't be coaching in the W unless she's an assistant somewhere.

Would you want her as a head coach over Katie Smith?

No. Just knowing she apparently applied for the Atlanta position and isn't getting it. Just wanted to make sure no other head coaching vacancies existed.

Is there any truth to this story? I mean, it was this same website that said curt miller was going back to coaching college after his first season with the Sun. I find that website, summit hoops to be mostly bogus.

I think you might be confusing Summitt Hoops with Swish Appeal. Megdal owns Summitt Hoops and has broke some of the bigger stories.

I’m pretty sure it was Summitt Hoops who made up the story about Curt Miller leaving the Sun to re-coach college.

He's broken a couple, but he also takes credit for things that local beat writers have actually broken. Also, speculative articles that happen to come true are more gossip than actual journalism.

It was Swish Appeal.

There might be some truth to it but it also might be "people the Dream are interested in." The guy does talk to a few people but I feel he jumps to conclusions or massages the information to make it fit the type of article he wants to write. He's a writer, not a journalist.

Collen's name has been batted around for a while along with Katie Smith's as deserving of a head coach position so it wouldn't surprise me if she ends up with an offer.

Well, I emailed Collen and straight up asked her, and she never replied like she usually does when I chat to her so I’m assuming it’s true that she is up for the job and most likely going to get it or else she’d probably say no, she’s not up for it and isn’t going to get it. Good for her if she gets the job, not good for the Sun because the players love her and I’m guessing that she’s more the brains of the Sun coaching outfit.

Nerd, you've actually surprisingly been giving me credit for things lately, so don't stop now. I am the ONLY one who has brought Collen up as a coaching prospect at this site. You could hear crickets chirp whenever I did bring her up, so people aren't seeing it for some reason. Not sure where else you've seen it, other than maybe Megdal's journalistic article where he comes up with a bunch of candidates for the SEA job, and happened to mention a bunch of assistants and didn't have Collen as a particular favorite. He did have Hughes as a retread possibility for SEA, so one his many darts managed to hit the board.

Maybe I missed it but I don't recall Megdal doing such an article for the ATL head coaching job. It probably would have been a rehash of his SEA article, but he missed an opportunity to point out why ATL would be a desirable destination to Collen.

Collen as head coach #1: http://boards.rebkell.net/viewtopic.php?t=92116&start=46 (pointing out she was whiteboarding in in the Sun huddle)
Colleen as head coach #2: http://boards.rebkell.net/viewtopic.php?t=92290&start=13 (suggested her for SEA)
Colleen as head coach #3: http://boards.rebkell.net/viewtopic.php?t=89451&start=432 (suggested her for ATL)

The post about Megdal's many coaching prospects for SEA

If she does get hired I hope there is a DNS podcast as was the case with the Seattle hiring. I'm sure the fans will have plenty of questions. I know I do.

What questions do you have?

I guess she's a defensive specialist.

She was basically in charge of the Sun’s defense the last two years. The Sun’s defense was the teams biggest weakness the last two years.

I though you said she was the brains of the outfit. Now you are saying she is responsible for their poor defense.

As for questions - what will she bring that is different to the team? What does this team need to have a winning season? Will she be GM or in charge of player personnel decisions? How will she deal with Angel who has been a challenge at times for the prior coaches. Do you know if she is coming back?

I do think shes the brains of the outfit. Doesn’t mean she got the Sun to play good defense this season.

Wasn’t she an assistant at Louisville when Angel played there? I know her husband was head coach. Maybe Angel requested her specifically and is why Atlanta is targeting her to coach.

That's a scary thought - Angel getting to pick the coach now.

McCoughtry has been keeping herself pretty busy lately. I doubt she's pulling GM duty too. Smile
