A couple of interesting quotes from Geno & Stevens about her not starting:
https://www.sny.tv/uconn/news/stevens-impresses-in-huskies-exhibition-opener/260401136
Quote: |
Crystal Dangerfield and not Stevens joined the four returning starters in the first five and the sophomore guard finished with eight points and seven assists in 23 minutes. Starting Dangerfield, Auriemma explained, keeps the returning starters -- three of whom were All-Americans -- in the spots they thrived in a season ago.
"We tried it in Italy and it was uncomfortable," Auriemma said. "That's why sliding Crystal in there is so easy so you don't change the other four from where they're comfortable being. Then when Azura comes in the game that changes the dynamic. People are moved around and that's not a bad thing. We've made some changes offensively that have made us more comfortable. By the end of the season it's going to look really, really good. Just in the beginning it won't be that easy." |
And a comment by Stevens about not starting:
Quote: |
"It doesn't matter who starts the game but it's what you bring once you get into the game," Stevens said. "You can't get caught up in that and it's not an issue for me. I played 40 minutes a game at Duke for two years and I still wasn't happy there. Just being able to play here is fun whether I start or not. |

Don't let my mother hear you saying anything against AB, or she will fight you.

IMO with the tough OOC games coming early, they need to solidify a solid starting five first, and worry about who gets minutes off the bench later on. No worries: CT has 18 more exhibition games later in the season....

Don't look but a couple of those AAC cupcakes you refer to beat a couple of teams from that impossibly tough SEC last year.
This season, in their last 18 games, UConn has 5 scheduled against preseason top 25 teams. Your gamecocks play 7 ranked teams in their last 18.

Your bolded comment matches Geno's thoughts as far as whether to start Dangerfield or Stevens.

Maybe someone can translate what Geno said. I think it's confused about who will start, saying either of two things or nothing.
First, he says it's "uncomfortable" for yesteryear's four starters if Stevens starts because they have to move around.
Second, he says moving them around is "not a bad thing." This seems contradictory already.
Third, he says he's made "some changes" in the offense to make things "more comfortable", presumably referring to the starting of Stevens. What are those changes? He doesn't say.
Finally, he says "it" won't be easy in the beginning of the season but that "it's" going to look really, really good by the end of the season. What's "it"? Starting Stevens, or Dangerfield, or either, or both?
Maybe this will become clearer when he hires Rick Pitino. |
No one got hurt
The reputed perimeter aces Samuelson & Stevens were a combined 1-10 from behind the arc while the starting guards hit 7-11.
A one-sided blowout but who can complain, the season is here. Hoorah.
Really you talk about that and not about the missed lay ups right at the basket and the missed free throws, I think they are probably the easiest shots in the game right. Hmmm. And nothing about the improved D and trapping by Kia, Gabby, KLS and Stevens. Interesting. Did you even watch the game.

Did anyone watch the game? There was no response in this thread while the game was on.

Yes I watched the game. I watch a lot of games, hence my name but I don't necessarily post during games. Yeah and it seems that there some posters who love to make judgmental comments without even watching games but what's new huh.

Yes, even Luigi is retching these days at the site of the AAC, so much that he's insisting to top OOC teams that to play CT they need to schedule games during the conference season.....
