Take the first team preseason from the B12, B10, ACC, SEC and P12. Pare it down a little for the ones that include 10 players. Add the UConn players and a couple preseason POY's from other conferences like the BE, maybe ConfUSA, and voila you have an easy list for this time of year.
Occasional's list is fairly good but I might include a few more minors in there.
My five for the P12 would be:
Canada
Billings
Ionescu
McPhee
Anigwe

I would not overlook Oregons PG can't remember her name, but she was the cog to their team in my opinion.

Sabrina Ionescu, national Freshman of the Year.

Technically, yes, but almost everyone is always improbable. Last season, it was obvious from early on that Plum would win and the other 29 candidates were window dressing.
The award has been given 14 times: nine to seniors, four to juniors (Augustus, Parker, Griner, Stewart), and one to a sophomore (Moore). All of those non-seniors, except Augustus, won NC's the year they won the Wooden. There is no Augustus, Parker, Griner, Stewart or Moore this season. Therefore, the award will go to a senior.
The current seniors who have a high probability of winning are A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Mitchell and Gabby Williams. Wilson has been class leader for most rankings and honors since high school. Mitchell will obliterate KML's career three-point scoring record and may end up in the top five point scorers in NCAA history. Williams will probably play on the best team, but she has a lot of intra-team competition for most outstanding player -- hence, probably won't have the stats of Wilson or Mitchell.
Lower probability seniors are Vivians, Canada and Lexie Brown. Everyone else approaches window dressing.
So, I'll dress USF's junior Kitija Laksa to get some Euro flavor. |

Not obvious this early on.

Ionescu has a glimmer of specialness for a young player. I'm eager to see how she progresses.
This is a Top 30 topic. Not asking for just one or Top 5.

I like Cazorla too. She really helps make Ionescu look even better - not that she needs a lot of help to look good. But still I couldn't call Cazorla top 30.

Maybe they're talking about Maite Cazorla, but Top 30?
There's only been two lists but apparently I'm overrating Teaira McCowan, who I've yet to be see mentioned. I've seen names I'm not familiar with but no McCowan.
No Azura Stevens for pilight? Another busted algorithm. |
I did forget about McCowan, but she’s really Offensively challenged. That’s why I don’t think she will come out of college early, she has a lot of work to do on her game. |

You're not supposed go by last year but project for this year. Vic Schaefer was honoring Chinwe Okorie's seniority until the NCAA tournament last year. She's gone now. It's all McCowan's show.
