Attendance was 20,491 98% Capacity.

Remember now, attendance is not butts in the seats, but tickets sold.

They were giving away tickets 50 at a time

And really, if they can't sell out opening night in a brand new arena what's it going to look like come January when they're mired in 10th place again?

Pistons "attendance" dropped off to a reported 13k last night. Here's the arena less than a minute after the opening tip:

when watching games on TV or in person at MSG(Liberty or Knicks), the crowds are always a little thin at the beginning. People come late all the time. I always judge a Liberty attendance just before halftime.

The same was true for that game (aka the Ben Simmons triple double game). The crowd looked better than that photo later on, but still surprisingly empty for an NBA game.

The NY Knicks are seeing their lowest attendance numbers(19,061) since 2006-07(18,805). Tonight's game vs. Memphis apparently has several thousand seats available. I think fans are tired of paying $100+ for seats when it's simply more enjoyable to watch at home or in a sports bar somewhere. If they fall below 2006-07's numbers it'll be their worst season since 1991-92(17,838).
