I went to the Sparks open practice today. Of the rookies in camp, I thought that Shakala Thomas was the most impressive by far. Good handle and great athleticism.

Nice! Thanks for the checking in! Were the vets scrimmaging too? Was Cappie flowing well? How did Syd, Mistie and Essence look? Do you think McCarty has a chance?

Cappie played in phoenix for many years won 2 championships with that franchise its not her first time playing in the west |
I am well aware of that, and Phoenix is not the "west coast" as I stated earlier. Many tend to refer to playing in Phoenix as playing "in the desert." (IOW, well removed from major sources of free standing H2O.)

Regarding Sparks open practice. Syd passed well and played solid defense but wasn't hitting her 3s. Essence looked very good. She shut down the unlucky guy (male practice team) she was covering. Cappie looked fine. Misty had one great block of a taller man. I didn't think any of the other players except Shakala looked like they might make the team. Shakala reminded me a bit of Essence in her determination and strength.

Gotcha on Shakayla! Great to hear about Essence! I'm hoping she is fully back to her pre-injury form. No more leaving Essence open bc she will burn you.

What position was Shakayla playing?

Not one post above about Karlie Samuelson, yet she might just sneak on this team with her consistent 3 point showing in these pre-season games. Thoughts?

You think? Where is she going to fit? Does she play defense? Does she have a midrange game? Can she hang in the paint? She has to beat a lot of talented players to earn a spot, and Penny will go along with anything Brian wants.

So I guess Williams will make the team and Wiese is the final cut? or Dabovic?
PG: Gray/Sims
SG: Pondexter/Williams/Dabovic or Wiese
SF: Beard/Carson
PF: Parker/Bass
C: Ogwumike/Lavender/Vadeeva

I agree. And from what I saw, if she does not make your cut, there are others who could definitely use her.

Yeah, I see the final cuts as Wiese and Samuelson. I really would have liked Wiese to get another year under her belt, but with Agler's preference for vets, I think he goes with Dabovic. Neither Wiese or Dabovic can defend for a lick. I can't speak for Samuelson. Weise and Samuelson seem like one trick ponies, while Dabovic has more variety in her repertoire, getting to the basket, finding teammates, shooting the three (although her % is not that wonderful). I just hope Agler gives her some more leash out there when she gets in. My concern is that Pondexter and Williams are redundant, but I will give Agler the benefit of the doubt.
PG: Gray/Pondexter
SG: Sims/Dabovic/Williams

On paper, I like this team a lot. Same starting five. Lots of questions surround the bench. Can Dabovic return to her "rookie year" productivity? How much does Pondexter have left in the tank? Can Williams perform so that her coach doesn't yell at her to pay attention? How does Bass look after her return from childbirth? Can Carson knock down open shots? Can Lavender improve her offensive efficiency? Will Vadeeva be the steal of the draft?
Can't wait for the season to start! Go Sparks!! |

I have them at 19 right now. Not sure why he hasn’t purged all his undrafted rookies yet. I wonder if he likes Jensen? Agler is probably trying to hammer out some deals. I would make him cut all his players instead of trading with him. ATL, you’re #3 in line. You don’t need to trade.
