Thanks for sharing, I've read her story on JockBio and found it very interesting. Would definitely check out this documentary.

I greatly admire what Holdsclaw is doing. It's so important when people in the public eye are open in sharing these struggles. And I hope much better days are ahead for her.

I wonder if Jennifer Lacy will be a part of the documentary. Or do we only care about domestic violence when we don't like the offender?

LISTEN: The Gun Incident That Changed Chamique Holdsclaw’s Life

http://sports.cbslocal.com/2016/05/03/listen-the-gun-incident-that-changed-chamique-holdsclaws-life/

Quote:
The breaking point for Holdsclaw and the moment her issues were apparent to the public occurred in 2012 when she was arrested after firing her gun at her former teammate and girlfriend Jennifer Lacy’s car during an argument. Holdsclaw describes what went through her mind during and immediately after the event and explained how her life has changed since the incident, after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

I've read her book and I've seen the documentary. Both are very interesting and I applaud her for her courage to be open and speak out on the issue and her struggle with mental illness.

I was watching the documentary with my wife, who has been dealing with clinical depression for many years. There is one part in the film when Holdsclaw is talking about how she was treated for depression for 10 years and then was given a different diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder, her remark was - Bipolar, wow this is serious - (may not be the exact quote). My wife was took this to mean that Mique didn't think the diagnosis of depression was serious.

I know Mique was speaking of her own thoughts and experience, but as she is doing public speaking events, I hope she is aware that the very people she is trying to reach out to and help, could be negatively impacted by her words. Every mental health issue / illness & diagnosis is serious. The implication that one is more serious than the other can be a dangerous thing for someone to hear.

WHEN THE GAME IS OVER

http://www.espn.com/espnw/feature/20826369/espnw-former-wnba-great-chamique-holdsclaw-shattered-facades-reclaimed-purpose

Quote:
When Holdsclaw relives the incident, she says her vision tunneled on the gun in her hand, something inside her urging her to lift the muzzle to her own head and pull the trigger. Then her mind blanked, and it did not come clear until hours later, when she had to be told what she'd done.
