Maya Moore as a guard? Parker over J. Jones for first team? Taurasi on the second team? |
You'd rather she didn't make all WNBA at all?

Based on this season, she probably shouldn't have

Maya Moore, period? I'm a UConn fan, but she played so crappy this year. I'm glad Taurasi got on there, she still had a high average and is making the most of her minutes. Nneka and Candace both put up basically same stats as last year, pretty much same team record in reg. season yet the importance of each player reversed this season? I forgot it is women's basketball and I guess we play nice and make sure everyone gets a piece of pie.

I would have had:
First team
G: Diggins
G: J. Thomas
F: Charles
F: J. Jones
C: Fowles
Second team
G: Clarendon
G: Gray
F: Ogwumike
F: A. Thomas
C: Griner
Honorable mention: Parker, M. Moore, Vandersloot

Fowles having 195 points means whoever left her off the first team also left her off the second team

Maya had what felt like a pretty poor season, but that's just because of what we've come to expect from her. She still basically outplayed and outproduced someone like Taurasi in every category you could care to mention. Maya would be on the second team if they weren't making up the positions as they go along, which seems pretty resonable to me.
I'm not sure which is more ridiculous - claiming Maya's a guard or calling Jonquel Jones a forward. Moore played virtually nothing but forward all season long, and Jones was pretty universally a center. Why do they even bother claiming these teams are guard/guard/forward/forward/center when they're just talking complete crap to form them? |

In a rare moment of consistency, Maya Moore was also listed as a guard on the All Defense teams

Interesting match-ups if the 2 teams played. Taurasi guarding DigginS?
Sloot
Loyd , how long could Gray or Moore chase her around?
Hayes , how long could CP3 or Nneka chase her around?
Stewart
EDD
etc
I'd bet on this team to beat either award winners.

I don't think EDD is justifiable in any of the F spots. Vandersloot, on the other hand... Inexcusable.

The assignment of positions is clearly inconsistent between voters. Clearly (at least some) voters didn't even attempt to have 1 center, 2 forwards and two guards on their first and second teams. Looking at the votes for the first and second team centers, it is impossible to have Fowles get 39 First place votes and Griner get 91 points, a total you can not get to with either 0 or 1 first place votes.
That is why it is problematic to put Moore on the first team when she had fewer votes than Ogwumike, even though Nneka had more total votes. Both are forwards under the classical basketball positions used. Six of the top seven vote getters were front court players. Arguably Parker and Jones (and to a lesser degree Charles) all played center during the season.

LA's tricky, because obviously under the standard GGFFC format either Nneka or Parker started at center all season, but they mesh the roles to such an extent that I don't mind either (or both) being considered a forward. Jones, on the other hand, spent the entire season playing alongside people like Alyssa Thomas and Morgan Tuck. She's clearly the center on those teams. Charles played a little more center this season than she has in the last couple, but still spent the vast majority of her time as a 4 alongside Vaughn or Stokes.

You only need two idiots, though - one who put Griner on the first team and left Fowles off entirely, and one who put both on the first team. Then the remaining 81 points for Griner are 27 second team votes. |

Even as a Mercury fan I can't argue with that. Dee jacked up some shots but she did not have a good season. Slooty definitely did.

they would have been closer to call Parker a guard. After all, she plays all five positions....[all at once]

Yes, EDD did have big absences. Stewie's lack of team success must have played a part.
