If Beard also retires, it'll leave just Taurasi & Brunson as the only players left from the 2004 draft.

I think most of us on here expected this. She's been a great player and representative for the league and women's basketball. Best of luck to her next year in her new role as coach.

It's been a joy to watch her since University of Minnesota. One of my favorite players to have watched play in this league.

Assuming Brunson doesn't also retire.

I think Brunson has one more year in her. Lynx likely lose Brunson, Augustus & Wright all after 2019.

Brunson does seem to have more left in the tank. Plus - Whalen has post basketball job already lined up. Has there been any clues on what Brunson might do after basketball?

Is Beard thinking about it? She seems like she still has a lot of defense left in the tank.

Both Beard and Whalen are two of my favorite players to never wear a Uconn or Mercury/Storm jersey.

Wishing Whalen a lot of luck in her coaching career. Really hoping she can take Minny some places.

Beard was close to retiring after the 2017 season. She stated it in interviews. Given her injuries this season and her numbers being down, it wouldn't surprise me.

She has a food business.

Reeve would give Howard away for free so the Lynx could barely go .500 and lose right away in the playoffs this year with the players she wanted instead, and then Brunson retires, leaving the Lynx without any logical replacement at PF. What a genius! Smile At least she was able to get the #6/#7 pick instead of the #12 pick from the draft pick swap. Oh wait! Smile

One of those two was the Big East Rookie of the Year in 2001.

Minnesota LEGEND. Can’t imagine a Lynx game without Lindsay Whalen.

I guess you missed most of this season, including the two games she just sat out. Wink

I wonder if the “resting” thing was an ego thing? They went over how Whalen only came off the bench once in her career, so maybe it was better to “rest” her than to spoil that milestone. But with DRob getting hurt, Whalen basically had to stop resting (or trust AJones more, which wasn’t happening), and sadly Reeve didn’t anticipate this kind of year from Whalen like some of the pundits did.

That was pretty good. Whalen has always had good comedic sense and timing.

I could say a couple of things about Reeve from this, but not sure I want to take the time to get into it. What’s done is done.

I don't really enjoy getting the memories so I'll say good luck at my Alma Mater. Wink

Thank you so much for posting the video, Stever!

I have to admit that my eyes were sweating a little while watching it Embarassed Confused Laughing She has driven me nuts at times but I love Whay and am definitely going to miss her. I look forward to watching her on the sidelines and good grief, she really could have a side hustle as a comedian! So many classic moments in that press conference alone and her response to the last question was the best! Razz Laughing

One of the best trades the Sun ever made... Jan 28.2004

The Connecticut Sun traded Shannon Johnson and their second round (21st overall) and third round (34th overall) picks in the 2004 WNBA Draft to the Silver Stars in exchange for San Antonio's first round (4th overall WHALEN), second round (16th overall) and third round (29th overall) picks in the 2004 WNBA Draft.

I think the Lynx offered the Sun Nichole Oldhe and Vanessa Hayden for Whalen.

Top 5 taken that year:
1 Phoenix Mercury Diana Taurasi, G, Connecticut
2 Washington Mystics Alana Beard, G, Duke
3 Charlotte Sting Nicole Powell, G/F, Stanford
4 Connecticut Sun Lindsay Whalen, G, Minnesota
5 New York Liberty Shameka Christon, G/F, Arkansas

At the time, most people thought San Antonio got the better end of the deal
