They got 3rd-5th place votes. The only players to get 1st place votes were Fowles, Charles, Parker.

How often have we had teammates in the top four of MVP voting, pilight? I'd guess a couple of Comets probably did it at least once, but it must be reasonably rare.

Dallas would have finished in last place without Diggins. She deserved those votes a lot more than Parker deserved two first place votes.

Indeed how does Parker get two first place votes while Griner gets none? Those are the most ridiculous votes.

It's happened on four other occasions

1999 Houston Sheryl Swoopes 2nd, Cynthia Cooper 3rd

2009 Phoenix Diana Taurasi 1st, Cappie Pondexter 4th

2009 Indiana Tamika Catchings 2nd, Katie Douglas 3rd

2013 Chicago Elena Delle Donne 3rd, Sylvia Fowles 4th

Griner missed 1/4 (?) or so of the season. Hard to get 1st place votes when you miss that much time. Though in general I agree Parker really didn't deserve them either.

I like the full breakdown. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place have only 38 votes, 5th has 35. That means two voters voted for first place only and three others didn't pick a 5th place candidate.

She already got 2 MVP's for that Laughing

She's also a great player, as last night demonstrated.

This is the 4th consecutive year with a first time MVP. That's a new league record. The previous record had been three, when Yolanda Griffith, Sheryl Swoopes, and Lisa Leslie each won for the first time from 1999-2001.

Each of the last nine MVP awards have gone to a different player, a marked difference from the 00's, when the eight awards from 2000-2007 were won by only three different players.

And the second straight where I don't think a single person picked that player to be MVP before the season started. Last year, anyone picking a Spark took Parker in preseason; this year, anyone picking a Lynx took Maya.

Last year, I thought Tina deserved the award when you considered how lacking her supporting cast was along with the extent her offense carried the Libs. This year I thought Parker and Nneka deserved to be ahead of her.

I also never would have thought Fowles would win it before the season started. However, on opening night you could see how locked in she was and how well-conditioned she was and you could tell her mindset was it's on.

If Griner continues her progression, she will more than likely win the mvp next season.Especially if Bonner/assets acquired in trade are high quality rotation players.

Fowles is the first player to win MVP despite receiving no ROY votes as a rookie (leaving aside those who were never eligible for ROY).

That's probably because she was injured as a rookie, no? against the Sparks no less!

If she'd played the whole season the way she did when she was available, she still wouldn't have gotten any votes

He's saying Parker had a pretty good rookie season.

That's a ridiculous understatement. Nobody but nobody was rolling up stats in so many categories as Candace was doing in her rookie season and early years. Both Tamika Catchings and Diana Taurasi tend to do well in multiple stat categories and Ace's sheer statistical accumulation was superior to theirs as well. In fact, this season saw a return of Ace to the multiple stat star player, and that is why she probably impressed some voters to tag her as an MVP candidate.

I didn't realize Fowles missed half of the 2008 season. I didn't follow the league back then. Me bad! But I was assuming nobody would've gotten any ROY votes since Parker was MVP as a rookie.
