They must be counting on getting swept Surprised

Honestly, when I first read this, I thought it was an error and they meant the Smith Center...
EDIT: Clearly I still thought they meant the smith center, since I put that in the title 😂

Eaglebank has a big concert the next night so it's probably not available, but they couldn't use the Smith Center or Bender Arena? Really?

Get your tickets early, or will it be be season ticket holders only? 2500 capacity venue.

Luckily, I don't anticipating this series going that far, but that's pretty embarrassing...

They might as well have it in Delaware. That would be a sell out too. And I think it seats around twice that amount.

Apparently they looked there and it was sold out. Smith has a GWVB game that night but I'm sure they could have offered more money and had it moved up a few hours Razz

Might have drawn more fans in Philly? This will look terrible on TV, but I'm assuming the Lynx will likely sweep anyways. it basically looks like a high school gym.

So all of these other choices weren't available?

Bender Arena(4,500)
Charles Smith Center(5,000)
Xfinity Center(17,500) - College Park, MD
Bob Carpenter Arena(5,000) - Newark, DE

I think our local high school gym (town population of 2400) is that big or bigger. Shocked

Good old McDumpugh. An absolute shrine to not giving anything that resembles a fuck about women's basketball. The shittiest arena in the Big East, far and away.

For the good of the WNBA, the Lynx need to sweep this series.

Or Eaglebank at George Mason in Fairfax, VA (10000)?

I've been there. Just barely suited to a college game, totally unsuited for a WNBA game in the regular season, much less a high-profile semifinals game. If you look at the Capital One schedule, it's pretty packed. It's like they planned all along to not have their team play there.

They should have looked for an alternative much earlier.

Sure doesn't look like the Mystics have 2,500 season ticket holders.

As I said in the 2nd post in the thread. They have a BIG concert on the 20th (Vets Aid with Joe Walsh, Zac Brown Band, Gary Clark and Keith Urban). I'm sure they'll already be setting up on the 19th. And are probably contractually required to have it available to the concert at least one day before. Maybe two.

Truly an insult to the players and fans to have a game at that Georegetown dump. There are high school gyms in the area that are far nicer.

What really ticked me off was this language in the Mystics announcement:

Quote:
The Mystics will join the Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx, and Phoenix Mercury as teams that have all had to play in alternate locations during the 2017 WNBA playoffs.

http://mystics.wnba.com/news/game-4-semifinals-held-mcdonough-arena/

Any of these other teams playing in a tiny dump with bleacher seats?

Seriously, some high schools like Sidwell with new facilities might look better on tv if they could add some seats. I wonder if there was a better arena that was more $$$

It's an embarrassment and an insult to schedule a play-off game in that kind of arena.

Luckily, the chance that the game will be played seems to be approximately 0.

The owner is probably sending the message to the fans to get used to this. Your new home will be only twice the size of this venue. Television is where the money is at, not attendance... for the Mystics anyway.

I can't figure out how they will do a broadcast from there. I guess they will have to take some of the bleacher space for media, which would mean even less room for spectators. And having watched UConn play the Hoyas there, I can attest that the 2500 that could fit on those bleachers are all preteens. It's a tight fit on those stands.

I'd also assume tickets will likely be $25 general admission.
