Angel McCoughtry, the 18th player in WNBA history to score 5000 points! Dark Angel is 31 years, 252 days old. She is the 4th youngest to score 5000. She tppk 257 games to score 5000, the 2nd fastest ever. She is the 1st player from the class of 2009 to score 5000!

That’s only about 30 ppg to be the fastest to 6000 pts. Let’s do the dam thing.

You’ve really given yourself leeway on the nicknames. Aren’t they supposed to be ones they would actually go by and not derivative of their actual name? I think she herself has called herself Lori Ann. Never has she called herself Dark Angel, an obvious derivative of Angel.

Angel is a hard nose player who wants to win and she wants the ball. I like the way she plays the game.

I agree with the wants to win part. In the past there was no doubt she wanted the ball as well, sometimes more than might have been good for wanting to win. I was a little surprised yesterday that Angel didn't seem quite so possessive of the ball. May be just a first game aberration.

Chelsea's nickname in college was "The Closer." She has now earned the right to carry that name into the WNBA.

I know, but that's been Cappie Pondexter's since the 2007 finals. Maybe after Cappie retires.

It has been a long time since Cappie closed anything.
I'm definitely on the Chelsea bandwagon though. Love her game.

And if she wouldn't have skipped 2015 and didn't only play 8 games in 2012 who knows how many points she would have.

Interesting that the number one pick and ROY is the 6th player from her class to score 1000. I know it's only due to her missing time because of injuries. Pilight, how many other draft classes had a #1 and ROY that failed to become the first player from her class to reach 1000?

For #1 picks:

From 1997, Tina Thompson was 1st among the regular draftees, but two players from the Elite Draft got there ahead of her (as did five allocated players)

From 1998, Margo Dydek was the 1st draftee to reach 1000 but Nikki McCray debuted in the W the same year and got to 1000 faster than Large Marge.

Chamique Holdsclaw was the 2nd player to reach 1000 from the class of 1999, behind Yolanda Griffith

Ann Wauters was the 7th player to reach 1000 from the class of 2000 (two undrafted players included in the total)

Sue Bird was the 2nd player to reach 1000 from the class of 2002, behind Swin Cash

LaToya Thomas was the 2nd player to reach 1000 from the class of 2003, behind Cheryl Ford

Janel McCarville was the 3rd player to reach 1000 from the class of 2005

Brittney Griner was the 3rd player to reach 1000 from the class of 2013

No one has reached 1000 from the 2017 or 2018 classes yet

Holdsclaw is the only other ROY on the list

Other ROYs

There was no ROY in 1997

The 1998 and 2001 ROYs (Tracy Reid and Jackie Stiles) never reached 1000 points

1999 ROY Chamique Holdsclaw was covered above

The 2002 ROY (Tamika Catchings) was actually drafted in 2001

2005 ROY Temeka Johnson was the 6th player to reach 1000 from that class

2007 ROY Armintie Price-Herrington was the 5th player to reach 1000 from that class

2013 ROY Elena Delle Donne was the 2nd player to reach 1000 from that class

Again, no one from the 2017 or 2018 classes have scored 1000

100/game is doable, as she would only have to do it for 10 games. Go Jessica!

The mileposts on the way to 200 wins

In characteristic Cheryl Reeve fashion, the Minnesota Lynx head coach and general manager described her milestone 200 wins as if she’d simply been parked near the arena while other people dominated basketball for much of the past decade.

That's an unofficial one - though one I have always been on board with.
