Since we already have a hypothetical expansion schedule thread. Why not have one on a hypothetical expansion draft. Last time it was 6 players, I will assume the same here. First we have to come up with a player pool. I'll start with the Dream:

Protected:

Her Majesty
Sykes
Hayes
Clarendon
Williams
Boyette

The last call is tough - they have to chose between Boyette, Holmes and Dantas. Dantas is not a sure thing to come every year, so I'd leave her out. Holmes may be the best of the 3, and they can blame Cooper for Boyette being a dud. But, they have plenty of wings and only one center so I'd go with protecting Boyette. I think Lyttle is a UFA and they can't protect her anyway.

So please fill in for your team.

Much as I would hate to lose Holmes, the Dream couldn't just let Boyette go to an expansion team after giving up a lottery pick for her.

Lose Hartley?

Sky could lose Copper
Mystics could lose Hawkins or TRP

Lynx could lose Perkins of Montgomry (but maybe FA's)

Indiana

Dupree
Johnson
Mitchell
Wheeler
Achonwa
Gwathmey

It actually becomes hard to pick a sixth player.

January over Gwathmey, surely, even with the possibility that she might quit soon-ish (or just repeatedly be hurt forever). At least January's, y'know, pretty good.

I was betting on the team not taking her and the need for the Fever to really start over. I'm a big January fan, but she's not in the future for the team.

That's said, you're probably right. I am feeling salty today.

Indiana probably wouldn't need to protect Larkins, Coleman or Pohlen. Some may be FA's anyway. Tough situation with so many players nearing the end of their careers.

I like it: dare an expansion team to waste a pick on Cambage.

I have to override this. Dump Little, keep Currie.

No way they protect Turner. Robinson has trade value, at least in theory.

Whos to say cambage signs before an expansion draft?

They should protect the better player.

Sparks

Parker
Ogumike
Gray
Simms
Lavender
Weise (need some young blood that can be developed)

**Would obviously protect Beard but she is retiring**

In at least one expansion draft they had to be. I believe Betty Lennox was selected by Atlanta as a free agent (they were selecting the right to core her, which they did).

Restricted FAs can, and Atlanta got to select and core Betty Lennox

Didn't somebody claim recently that she was waffling on retiring or claimed she never said she was retiring?

Maybe Beard's not a prominent enough player, but retired players usually get honored by opposing teams for that player's last visit. It just doesn't have the feel that she's really retiring. It's never been a point of emphasis with the media.
