UConn with 3/5 first teamers is just lazy, IMO.

In theory they should be a team to watch with their core stars back as juniors. But I always get worried when I have high expectations heading into a season Smile. What I like most about them is their versatility - Allazia Blockton may put up the most points but they have quite a few other players who are threats also - Amani Wilborn, Danielle King, Natisha Hiedeman and the very underrated Erika Davenport (lover her rebounding) are their other core juniors.

Leaving Nared off a AA list is inconceivable to me.

RE: Athlon's Top 25 ~ No. 24 Virginia

Really? As a fan of Virginia, they are in top 50 but certainly not ready to be in Top 25. Hope I'm wrong, though.

Cheers,

Trees are 5th on Lindy's and 10th on Athlon. Kenny Kalina's list is not better than...well...anyone's. Didn't the Cardinal make the FF last season?

You should. Allazia Blockton is amazing, Natisha Hiedeman seems to be doing the Layshia Clarendon thing even faster than Clarendon did, and they're just so dang fun to watch.

How can Tenn be ranked 10th & 12th by Lindy's & Athlon without either or both Nared & Russell being an AA? This is a team that finished unranked last year and lost 2 starters and a third player who was projected to be their starting pg. If Lindy thinks they will be a top 10 team then who do they think will put them up there?

I didn't make this ranking. I was just saying one ore both players can be a AA.

Athlon has a bit more credibility, imo, based on that ranking. TX really should be better than Baylor, and OK doesn't belong in the top 25.

Look for South Dakota State to crack the top 25 or HM at one point this season. Macy Miller is back from an injury that kept her out last season as are the other two of top three scorers that came within a point of beating Stanford at the 2016 NCAA's: Guebert and Thompson, and the group is upperclassmen now. Miller's loss was felt last season, but even without her they just missed out an at-large bid for the NCAA tourney last March. Palmer and Alexander emerged as capable players and former starter Chynna Stevens is eligible after transferring back and sitting out the past two seasons. Myah Selland is a freshman who many will wonder how the Power 5 schools missed out on her

I don't think Stanford belongs anywhere in the top 10 - maybe not even in the top 25. Hope I'm wrong of course.

As long as TVD is the coach of that team, I'll will always expect to find them at least near the Top 10, and certainly in the Top 25. Personally, I fully reckon that you are just as wrong as you hope to be.

I think Stanford has a lot of questions. For me it really hinges down to--is Alanna Smith going to emerge as a star? (the 1-9 game in Italy doesn't bode well). Does Brittany McPhee gain a sense of consistency, or does she have big game against UConn only to disappear against Gonzaga? Anna Wilson did look promising last year; however, we'll have to see how well she comes back from injury. Can Carrington play well and UNDER control. I'll be happy if she can make her layups--she missed so many ridiculous driving layups last year. Is Shannon Coffee ready to contribute something? Is Kaylee Johnson finally healthy and returning to the Kaylee of old? Where does our three point shooting come from? (Anna, Dijonai...and no one else?) Nadia Fingall did have herself a nice game against Lucca--but there were more worrying signs than bright spots. Turnovers may be an issue for Stanford this year given that we don't have the steady presence of Karlie or Briana Roberson anymore.

Okay, I'm done overanalyzing Stanford. Very Happy

Yep Yep. Agree. A lot of question marks and bigger losses of personnel than I think we knew. The lack of assists is very troubling.

I agree. SDSU could be ranked sometime this year. Having Macy back will really help. I really like the freshman class for the Rabbits this year.

Picknell II - we seem to always need one of those on the team.

In general though I think we need to worry more about the guards than the bigs - Johnson, Smith, and Fingall should be adequate, if not spectacular, there. And McPhee will have her ups and downs but be generally ok. For me I worry more about which guard, if any, will step up. Can Sniezak hold it together? Will either Wilson or Williams turn out to be the real deal? Will Wilson be healthy? And we have two nice guards arriving again next year but NO bigs. So the future in the big dept is concerning.

With 4, possibly 5 (Gonzaga?) tough preseason games, we will see fairly quickly how bad, ...er, I mean good, it's going to be this year. edit: it looks like we may also get Ohio State twice, once in Columbus and once at Play4Kay in Vegas.
