Id really like to see DT take Williams into the post. I know it's tough to do as it takes away from BG down low.

Hard game to call. My magic 8 ball is broken. Inclined to think the playoff experience of the Mercury will carry the day.

Let's go Mercury. Lynx always seem to play them in the playoffs so I'm inclined to think they'll win.

Previous encounters this season:

August 4 @ Connecticut: Griner out injured. Taurasi drops 33 points, Leilani 17, Little 13 Surprised , but the Mercury come up 1 point short against a very balanced Sun team.

August 20 @ Connecticut: Connecticut destroy a full-strength Mercury team by 28 points.

September 1 @ Phoenix: BG scores 31 and the Mercury win by 20.

Not much consistency in those results to paint a picture of what might happen this time, other than the home team winning all 3 times.

i think this game will come down to who wants it more. We've seen good & bad versions of these teams. Either way, it should be fun to watch.

Mercury have the 3 headed monster - Griner/Taurasi/Mitchell. Pretty scary.

Matchup between Griner and Jones will decide it i think. Both cant afford to get in foul trouble

Man, at the season's start who would have thought our second and third leading playoff scorers would be FLB and Turner.

So there's a 4-day wait from Rd. 1-Rd 2, but they can't go 2 of 3?

Teams have earned the opportunity to rest and prep between games or series. We want to see them at their best.

If Mystics and Phx both win then LA will have face the Mercury in the Semifinals and I would love to see Sparks knock Phx out off the playoffs get payback for what Phx did to LA in the 2013 2014 playoffs.

And then a one day rest until the semis.

i don't think 1-game playoffs give us that chance.

well that makes even more sense, and dovetails nicely with shades' wanting to see the teams at their best. Smile

I have LA as a slight favorite over Minnesota to repeat as champions. But be careful what you wish for.The mercury in recent history have had great success against the sparks in the playoffs. They've knocked the sparks out of the playoffs in 2009,2013,and 2014.The last time LA beat phoenix in the postseason was 2000.

They had more talent than LA when they have beat them in the playoffs. That is no longer the case.

The mercury have a dominate post player who can put up 25/10,and must be double teamed. What if Nneka gets in foul trouble trying to guard Griner ? Taurasi is also capable of dropping 25-30 pts.And C.Little, despite being mediocre for most of the season, has always played Parker tough. This will not be a cake walk for the sparks.

Mercury, the planet,
flies closest to the sun.
Let's hope that Curt can plan it
so the Merc is torched and done.

I don't think playing Phx will be a cakewalk but if they do meet I like LA chances to win the series.Sparks may not have a BG stopper but they do have defenders for the rest of the team. Carson and Beard can play good defense on DT Mitchell Turner DRob MoCurrie. Phx will have their own issues guarding LA too.
