Prices vary from $2.55-$2.85, as of last night, in my locale.

On Monday the $2.85 was $2.31.

I filled up Tuesday at $2.25 at Sam's Club. It was about $2.32 everywhere else.

When I got home an hour or so later places were showing $2.55.

Now it's down to $2.45, with a few still at 2.55.

Earlier this week I was seeing stories about Dallas running out of gas. I was curious about TX prices so I looked them up. I remember that Houston was ~$1.95-2.05. I looked up Dallas and while I don't remember what it was, it wasn't anything outrageous that I would stand out and make me remember.

Houston is still in the $1.95-2.05 range and Dallas is ~$2.20-2.40.

So it looks like CT had a much larger jump than we did.

Here in New Jersey, it has gone from $2.19 up to $2.49 in a week and it's expected to keep climbing.

Since last week, gas here went from 2.25 to 2.65, yet no one ever talks price gouging.

The wholesale price of gasoline hit a two year high last week because of refinery shutdowns. The shutdown of offshore wells apparently had no effect and crude prices actually dropped because of the reduction in demand resulting from the refinery shutdowns.

AAA said they expect the price spike at the pump to be short-lived because there was no significant damage to refineries in Corpus Christi and Houston - much less than anticipated. Colonial Pipeline planned on restarting moving gasoline today. AAA expects the spike to end mid September.

Now just wait to see what havoc Irma wreaks.

If Irma is as bad as they're predicting, gas prices will again be over $3.00.

This is how the gouge is done- price spikes in short order, then takes weeks to ssssssllllllloooooowwwwwwlllllyyyyy come back down.

No shortage anywhere around here. No lines. The only difference is the price is 50 cents higher.

Played by big oil and wall st. once again.

Rise like a rocket, fall like a feather....need the infrastructure for fast recharge stations for electric vehicles. Be like some Euro countries and stop making gasoline-only vehicles. ALL vehicles should be at the very least hybrids....need more cars like Tesla.

Went up to $2.89 here yesterday. A month ago it was in the $2.25 range.

In Nevada we haven't had that big a variation. Prices were roughly $2.25 pre-Harvey and Irma, went up a bit but stayed below $2.50, and now are about $2.45. As compared to the days of $4.00 gas, I really can't complain.

To clarify, these are the prices in Carson City. In Reno, 30 miles to the north gas is closer to $3.00 due to local gas taxes. It is a strange market.

I don't know that it's gouging, but it doesn't affect me much since I no longer drive much.

On the other hand, home heating oil kills me. At about $2.25 in my town today, it's up about $.25 since last month and about $.50 since last year at this time, even though it's been a very warm fall with little demand for heating oil.

There is no reason for the gas price to remain ~.45 above pre-hurricane, imo.

Re: heating oil you, and the rest of the oil users in the region, can thank ME for current relative low price. When we switched to natural gas a few years back, oil was more than $3.00/gal. It hasn't come near $3 since.

And yes, I always get in the wrong (slowest) check out line at the grocery store.

I read ME as Maine. I'm thinking, I didn't know CT lived in Maine! Laughing

And I was wrong about the gas prices around here. It's only $2.69. I was reading the sign about a block away, in the dark, without my glasses on! I should know better. It had been $2.70-something and when I saw it had changed, I just assumed it had change up!
