Voepel must be tuning into the Extended Choices MVP Poll Cool

Quote:
The top two candidates for MVP, Minnesota's Sylvia Fowles and Los Angeles' Candace Parker, are very different types of posts, but both get the job done. Parker's fluidity and versatility are her hallmarks; Fowles is a low-block dominator.

Why? She didn't mention Quigley at all.

Voepel must be tuning into the WNBA MVP and Minutes thread. I'm always here for you, Mechelle. Cool

Parker can play all five positions, so consider her a guard for this purpose

Yeah, I don't get why she bent the rules so badly for the first team, yet the second and third teams followed the usual G/F/C format.

Also, Taurasi should be nowhere near any All-WNBA team this season.

Feel sorta bad for Alyssa Thomas, who is averaging more points, assists and rebounds than Jasmine (and more assists than Chelsea Gray) but probably won't get the recognition because of all the frontcourt players in the mix.

Wow, didn't even really try to fudge it for the first team, just listed four frontcourt players and left it at that. I don't think even the WNBA would push it that far, so those teams are impossible. Mechelle just avoided making an actual decision between Charles and Nneka (presumably, seeing as Fowles/Parker was her MVP debate).

is this the first time four frontcourt players made an All-WNBA team?? Sucks that J. Jones was left off the 1st team.

If Parker can miss half a season and make The 2nd team, Sloot should be able to make 2nd team. MVP is pretty clear, but there were several players who had fantastic seasons.

The season isn't over; no one's officially voted for anything yet.

That said, if they actually do stick to positions, Jones is battling Griner for center on the 2nd-team (and unless they've introduced it this year, the 3rd team doesn't exist).

Is Parker any less of a guard than Delle Donne, who labels herself as such and is designated as such on the official roster? I think with Parker, the label used nowadays is point-forward because she can facilitate, unlike what we've seen from Delle Donne.... whose guard skills are more about the handle and perimeter shooting.... not particularly unique to Delle Donne.

We have the exact same list, although I'm sure the official team will greatly differ. I would not be surprised in the least to see Bird and Taurasi on the list. Does anyone know if they're actually having a third team?

If espnW wants to have a third team, that's their prerogative. It may be a way to show that they haven't completely forgotten about Griner and Delle Donne. See, they're right there on the third team.

The problem is, unless you want to go with five posts..who was better?

Maybe an argument for Loyd or Diggins?

What do you mean, maybe? In 2017, Skylar Diggins has been better than Diana Taurasi. That's not even really a controversial statement.

I agree, but I also think Taurasi will get in based on reputation and breaking the scoring record this season.
