Even with New York's late run and the records of Minnesota and LA, I'd be shocked if anyone other than Miller won it. I'd be surprised if it was remotely close.

He is the only reasonable choice. Reeve was in the running when the Lynx had a shot at 30, but not anymore. The New York run was outstanding, but it only got them to where they should have been all along.

On a side note: Richyyy, were you planning on doing a WNBA Awards write-up this year for WNBAlien? I always loved your insight into these things, and how you break it all down.

Reeve is back in play. Securing that #1 seed, while Miller stumbled to the finish line and gave up the #3 seed.

Justintime, While I agree with your conclusion, we're it not for injuries, Reeve might have been inice the running. It goes to show the role luck plays in awards.

It is interesting to go back and look at our predictions thread. Many if not most had the Sun in the lottery and I don't recall anyone picking them as high as they finished.

Without a doubt.

The parallel universe where Tuck doesn't get hurt and Bentley doesn't leave for EuroBasket would be interesting. Are Connecticut ever as good this season if Miller doesn't get pushed into discovering the CWilliams/Stricklen/AThomas lineup that he was virtually forced into?

I doubt it. Have never really got into it this season. Thanks for the kind words, though. Always nice to know somebody was reading Wink.

I personally think that Miller's advantage over Reeve is the overall age of his teams. Teams as young as the Sun don't usually produce like the Sun have this year especially against more veteran teams.

But then, teams as old as the Lynx have usually either started to deteriorate due to Father Time or fractured apart due to competing egos by now. Different types of teams always come with their own challenges.

But this isn't new. Coach of the Year invariably goes to someone in charge of a team that exceeds expectations (or just the coach of the team that wins the most, if there isn't anyone obvious who fits the previous description). That's basically Miller on his own this year. Pretty much everyone else who was expected to be mediocre or kinda suck turned out to be mediocre or kinda suck.

Almost gave my vote to Laimbeer...

No Cash
No Wright
Season ending injury to Boyd
Lost Vaughn and EP fpr 6 consecutive games
Stokes showed up to training camp out of shape
Zahui B gave them nothing

Laimbeer won 1 more game than last season despite losing 2 starters.

I guessing Miller will win the award this season. The reasons that are mentioned in previous posts why the Sun have improved this year are valid reasons for their higher winning percentage. Another element of the Sun's improved play was the fact that several of their players raised their level of performance this season. Does Miller get credit for that or do the players get the credit?

My honor as a Girl Scout, I thought that said Banham Rooster initially. Which would actually make sense if she had any part in their success.

Laimbeer will get some votes with his 10 game winning streak. But this is still Miller's award.
