With already declining playoff ratings, I think this week-long break leading into the Finals does not bode well for the league. I don't feel any momentum or hype leading up to game 1. This ain't the Super Bowl. Looking to next year, is this really unavoidable? Will ESPN adjust their schedules for the W?

It's simply unavoidable when both semifinal series get swept.

Hardly. It's their choice that the Finals dates are set in stone. They could use that TV slot for the Game 5s that didn't happen for Game 1 of the Finals if they wanted and make Game 2 the ABC game. Might complicate arena availability even further, though.
