This isn't a poll to validate a MVP that I've already decided should be MVP. Nor is it a poll to validate some algorithm that doesn't even have a minimum games played requirement. It's about freedom of choice, and how that freedom of choice might affect the percentages. It's also about recognizing and paying respect to more of the players having great seasons. All freedom, no covfefe.

There are 14 candidates in this poll. They are the Top 14 in points per game with a minimum requirement of 22 games played at this point. This may make Delle Donne and Griner fans cry because it's not their fault if they're hurt, but bottom line, you're not helping your team win if you're not on the court for multiple games. Historically, this notion has held up.

Every player listed is averaging over 15 ppg.

"22 games played" seems almost suspiciously arbitrary. It's almost like you chose that number specifically to justify keeping certain players off the ballot.

That is what I was thinking. A minimum number of games played makes sense, but there should be some objective explaination of why a certain cut-off was chosen. For instance, what % of games played for a season is required before there is a disqualification of that player in the minds of enough voters that the player no longer has a chance. And is that number consistent every year? Then once that is determined the cut-off should be adjusted to the same % of games currently played.

Perhaps 22 games is that point, but it would be nice to see the methodology used.

It would have been a higher number, but Minnesota has a hefty 9 games left. 22 + 9 = 31, the minimum game standard the past ten years.

I like having multiple MVP polls with different methodology for determining who's included. It's like the presidential election with all the different polls, some of which included Gary Johnson and/or Jill Stein and some which didn't.

I wanted to base it on PER, but I couldn't find PER for more than the Top 10 and I wanted to include the max 14.

I doubt the media types are looking at advanced stats but more likely rudimentary stats, like ppg.

I voted for Parker, I'm sure she's not going to win, but she has been playing great. Regardless Parker, Fowles, and Jones would be on my All wnba 1st team.

Is there even a set number of games that must be played in order to be considered for MVP. Has the league set this number or is it just who they want to win. If there is a set number I'd like to see the link.

There's not a set number, but no player has won MVP in a season where they missed more than three games.
