If the Lynx finish the season at something ridiculous like 31-3, Reeve is going to get votes regardless of the job Miller's done in Connecticut. Sometimes being really, really good outweighs unexpected improvement. |

Not to mention it is only unexpected because they have underperformed in the past. Arguably, the Sun are simply where they should have been last year (when everyone was calling for Miller's head).

Where they should be last year? With 4 rookies, a cancerous teammate, a brand new first time WNBA head coach, a player who had to very slowly work her way back into game shape, and a team that featured Kelly Faris?
I also fail to see how Reeve is a very VERY good coach. Give her a roster with a bunch of new players/rookies/non-Olympians/non-stars last year and she how she makes out. Reeve is lucky she inherited a team that already had Augustus, Brunson, Whalen. Lucky she won the draft with Maya Moore. Lucky she had a player who forced her way onto the team via a trade demand. You have all that and of course your going to win games.
Miller hasn't been so lucky. He's a better coach this season than Reeve is this season.

I'd also be curious to see what Reeve could do with a roster similar to what Connecticut or even San Antonio has. She'll have to replace her vets eventually.

See how any coach makes out with a sub-par team.
To win you need talent. That is about as simple as it gets. Yet once you have the talent there is no guarantee wins/championships will come. How often have we seen teams with all the talent in the world fall flat on their face, coached by someone who can't get the pieces to fit, figure out how to maximize potential, or has no clue how to draw up effective plays and prepare their team for games.
What has made Reeve a very, very good coach is how she has managed to do all this. She has her teams so prepared that Sue Bird once noted that the Lynx would be calling out the plays the Storm were going to run as they setting them up. Add in her in game adjustments and her out of timeout plays and she is clearly elite.
Also, while it is easy to discount a coach because of stars, consider that it was not offense that has been the hallmark of this Lynx dynasty, but rathet their defense. They have been at the top or near the top in D Rating every year since 2011. And before Fowles the only player who was noted as a good defender was Brunson. Yet somehow Reeve has turned Augustus, Whalen, and Moore into a top unit through well coached team defense.
Yeah, she is a future hall of fame coach for a reason.

Reeve. Until someone knocks her off the throne.

Any competent head coach would have 3 titles with the Lynx's roster since 2011. A great coach would have at least 4, if not 5 by now.

Being competent is enough to put you ahead of most WNBA coaches.
