This is a no competition poll. It's Gray standing by herself in an empty desert.

Why don't we just change the name of this poll from ROY to the "Allisha Gray Award".

We should be debating over the All Rookie team. My five: Gray, Davis, Talbot, Chong & Sykes. Maybe Whitcomb gets in over Chong.

PER for Rookies (minutes played)

22.6 Simms (26)
17.9 Gray (405)
15.1 Wiese (87)
14.9 Whitcomb (115)
14.9 Sykes (144)
13.4 Chong (222)
11.9 Raincock-Ekunwe (122)
11.5 Walker-Kimbrough (58 )
10.1 Montgomery (8 )
7.3 Davis (298 )
4.9 Allen (119)
4.1 McCall (79)
2.1 Fagbenle (35)
1.3 Fitzgerald (8 )
0.9 Peterson (25)
-1.2 Diarra (6)
-1.8 Prince (59)
-1.9 Coffey (65)
-2.0 Plum (146)
-4.0 Jones (36)
-4.6 Akhator (40)
-7.0 Epps (19)
-10.4 Lewis (36)

Eliminating all rookies under 100 minutes yields this list

17.9 Gray (405)
14.9 Whitcomb (115)
14.9 Sykes (144)
13.4 Chong (222)
11.9 Raincock-Ekunwe (122)
7.3 Davis (298 )
4.9 Allen (119)
-2.0 Plum (146)

So Thus far this season, my top 5 rookies are:

Gray
Whitcomb
Sykes
Chong
Raincock-Ekunwe

Davis had one great game, but besides that, has not impressed. Sure she has talent, but 28 turnovers (vs 20 assists) is bad (20.1% turnover rate). That's why her PER is so low. She's had plenty of minutes to right it, but has not. She will get more time to right it, so she can earn her spot on my team. By the way, she also has a negative win-share (-0.3) on a .500 team.

Allen's PER is too low and she hasn't logged many minutes, but she hasn't been with NY that long. We'll see if her numbers improve.

As for Plum, well there are threads discussing her struggles.

I wouldn't recommend just going by PER as your only metric, but I think it does a good job here.

I guess Fitzgerald is better than a lot of players who actually have roster spots. Surprised

Ha! I think the 8 minutes played suggests otherwise.

I don't see Emma Cannon. Isn't she a rookie? I know these league honors teams cheat when it comes to positions, but have they ignored positions altogether for the All-Rookie team? Otherwise, you'd need two players who are at least semi-legitimate post players -- probably Cannon and NRE.

Of course, since the bar is set so low, maybe we can just vote in Alaina Coates in absentia. Smile

Positions are often ignored in All Rookie team voting. In 2005 the team was two centers and three guards. In 2009 no post players made the list.

My bad. It's hard to remember the rookies that are not recent college grads.

10.9 Cannon (127)

Since she played over 100 minutes:

17.9 Gray (405)
14.9 Whitcomb (115)
14.9 Sykes (144)
13.4 Chong (222)
11.9 Raincock-Ekunwe (122)
10.9 Cannon (127)
7.3 Davis (298 )
4.9 Allen (119)
-2.0 Plum (146)

I don't think that changes anything, but I should have listed her.

Yvonne Turner too especially for her defense.
Personally I think Emma Cannon has earned some more minutes, even with the PF congestion in front of her.

Minutes are kind of a "the coach is not a complete idiot" stat, relative to the rest of the players on their team.

But yeah, so long as Gray doesn't get rookie hazing in Phoenix when it's 120* outside ... she's definitely on her way to win it.

Left out Talbot (and Turner) in Phoenix as well.

My gut reaction based on not very much but having seen some games

A. Gray
Davis
Chong
Whitcomb
Sykes

so far in this class one amazing game might be enough to get you on the board

My bad again.

12.1 Talbot (251)
7.1 Turner (138)

Since they both logged more than 100 minutes:

17.9 Gray (405)
14.9 Whitcomb (115)
14.9 Sykes (144)
13.4 Chong (222)
12.1 Talbot (251)
11.9 Raincock-Ekunwe (122)
10.9 Cannon (127)
7.3 Davis (298 )
7.1 Turner (138)
4.9 Allen (119)
-2.0 Plum (146)

Talbot certainly deserves consideration. And we still have half a season to go!
