This new minor league season started over the weekend.

Mo and I will try to cover it as best as we can:
http://www.womensbasketball247.com/2017/06/wmlba-week-1-recap-june-16th-18th/

They are trying to be at a higher professional standard than the WBCBL, but obviously do not have that level of reach yet. For those unfamiliar with fairly organized semipro/post-collegiate unpaid leagues, there are also the WUBA and WABA which are affiliated with men's semipro leagues.

Former WNBA player Janell Burse is the commissioner of this league

I took a look at their website a few days again and noticed they didn't really have any info on players that are playing in the league. Do you know if any are former WNBA players or what colleges are represented? Are they bigger name college players or is it more mid major level players trying to get their names out there.

I'm going to try to go to a Chicago Breeze game but their website is EXTREMELY amateur and isn't giving me very good vibes. But it's cheap as dirt so hey, why not? I'd be interested in hearing other people's opinions of games if any of y'all go.

edit: nvm, just realized they aren't actually a part of this league anymore

Looks like the same story for the Georgia Classic.

I'll stick with the WNBA. This new league will not make it past one season.

I don't think this is an entirely new league, because we discussed it before last year (2016)...

There seems to be very little information about any of the Eastern teams. There is a little bit more about the Texas teams, including a box score of a game between Dallas and San Antonio. From a quick search of the players it seems that Dallas has at least two that played college basketball. Antoinette Thompson was an honorable mention Mountain West All Star from TCU in 2012. Connie Roseman played at Long Island University and has played overseas in Germany.

If that's the Connie I'm thinking of, she was Connie James at LIU, and she was fun to watch.

All I'm asking out of this league are publicly posted box scores, or at least rosters.

The head coach for the Dallas Lightning is former WNBA player Alicia Thompson.

Video from their first game.

http://thewsportsnetwork.com/wmlba-2017-season-tip-off-game-1/

The play-by-play announcer actually says "the great, humongous city of Houston". I have never heard of any announcer saying the word "humongous"! Very Happy

I only have boxscores from the first set of games for the three Texas teams. The biggest name I saw was Mariah King.

The six teams mentioned in the article are the ones that will play this season.

Yes, it was announced last year, but this is the first season for them.

That's why I'm still unsure of the level of coverage we can provide, but I will write about anything publically available or that they send me.

I don't know how this league is supposed to help with exposure for the players if you can't even find the rosters for most of the teams. I think that's the LEAST you could expect from them, is to tell you who is in the league.

Apparently Aaliyah Whiteside is playing in the league, which I think is the biggest college name that I've been aware of so far.

I wish them well, as it will not be easy. Even the NWBL which had some big time names (Swoopes, Bird, Lobo, Hammon, Thompson, Catchings) couldnt keep it going and each year after year 3 got weaker and weaker.
