Griner 6th in frontcourt votes is shocking. Stewart & Bird getting the home team votes. Layshia Clarendon not even listed for the east guards is sad. Moore having an average season and is leading in votes.

Not that shocking to me, I don't think Griner is all that popular.

Those numbers for the East guards |
The whole 'vote for any old ten players you want' thing was always likely to be an issue there. There aren't any big names or players having explosively exciting seasons in that group. Tiffany Mitchell is still pretty much a joke as a starter, though. |

Maybe people are responding to her great +/- numbers. Her net is #1 among guards and 3rd best in the league among all players.

For me, what's interesting is with ATL...
Tiffany Hayes gets no respect, but with her leading the Eastern Guard votes, I would think that the people giving her that respect are the ATL fans... But if that's the case, why aren't the fans also voting for Clarendon? Bria Holmes is getting votes...

Rosters based on early votes
East
Hayes/Toliver/Pondexter
Mitchell/Rodgers/Hill
Delle Donne/AThomas
Charles/Dupree
JJones/Dolson
Top missing cut:
JThomas 2686
Stokes 2567
Zellous 2128
West (Olympic team?)
Bird/Diggins/Whalen
Taurasi/Augustus/Loyd
Moore/Stewart
Parker/Ogwumike
Fowles/Griner
Too missing cut:
Brunson 6236
AGray 5766
GJohnson 5680
Beard 5003
Keep in mind fans only get 50% of the say in the rosters this year.
I thought I read 50% somewhere, but I can't find anything to confirm that.
This blurb doesn't detail how the All Stars will be decided. I get the feeling the front office will chose whoever they want.

No way should A Gray should be missing the cut. She is the leading rookie so far this year. I voted for those who are playing well and were not just voted on due to thier popularity. I personally did not vote for those I was sure would make it in. Also no way Jasmine should miss the cut or Wheeler(who has been better than January)or Mitchell and Dupree.

The fans only choose the starters the coaches choose the 7 reserves so the popular vote is thrown out the window after the starters and quality counts for more in which case you get IMO something like
east
Hayes/J. Thomas/Clarendon
Mitchell/Toliver/Rodgers
EDD/A. Thomas
Charles/Dupree
J. Jones/Dolson
I have Clarendon and Rodgers as the last two in Clarendon on her good start, Rodgers because (unless they keep losing) NY as the 2nd best team in the east should get a second player in. If not Rodgers maybe Hill or Pondexeter?
West
Bird/Diggins/C. Gray
Taurasi/Loyd/McBride
Moore/Ogwumike
Parker/Stewart
Fowles/Griner
The last spot in the west is really tough does Minny get another player in based on the record or do there next three best players cancel each other out in the sense of who do you pick between Whalen, Augustus and Brunson? If the coaches want to include all twelve teams Mcbride seems like the obvious pick from SA. Or do they give it to GloJo as the next front court option or A. Gray so they can include a rookie. I think they default to McBride to include all teams and because no one else is demanding the spot ATM

She is to a certain degree. The Griner- Johnson fiasco really plummeted her popularity. Yet, she's been having a fantastic season

I'd rather have unpopular players have a fantastic season than popular ones have a subpar season.

Tiffany Mitchell getting more votes right now than Jasmine/Alyssa Thomas is a complete joke.
Mitchell should not even be in consideration. There are 3, possible 4 Sun players that should be in the All-Star game, Mitchell should not. But whatever.
Jones and the Thomas's should be total lock's, and Williams should at least be highly considered.

Good point. Plus Gray would be more recent in their memory and did manage to get a NCAA for SC.

Gray also has more votes than Mitchell. Not many people have been voting for Eastern Conference guards.

Somehow, voters convinced themselves a year ago that a team can win 16 games and still have three All-WNBA players. Three All-Stars is not nearly as difficult to comprehend.
Heck, Chicago has an argument for two All-Stars. It's mostly what's happened around Quigley and Dolson that's caused the 3-12 disaster. Hard to find wins in a 12-team league with a clueless GM/coach, key players out, and crippling inefficiency from Pondexter and Young, two starters that use a lot of possessions.
