Brunson & Rodgers named All-Star replacements. I think Rodgers' pick was the fact that she'll already be there for the 3pt contest.

The WNBA also announced today that Connecticut Sun head coach Curt Miller and his staff will coach the Eastern Conference in place of New York Liberty head coach Bill Laimbeer and his staff while Laimbeer tends to a family matter.

The addition of Brunson gives the class of 2004 24 All Star nods, putting them all alone in third among draft classes. 2001 is second with 36 and 1999 leads with 63. Note that the class of 2013 already has 16 All Star nods, including five this year.

The addition of Sugar Rodgers means there are three 2nd round picks in the ASG.

A request for pilight, but understandable if you don't want to do it: What's the breakdown by overall pick of the all-stars? There's a pretty big gap between No. 1 and No. 12, and not much of one between No. 12 and No. 13.

The three 2nd round picks are Hayes, Rodgers & Quigley.

pilight, has a third round(or fourth) pick ever been named an All-Star?

Yes. Third rounders Adrienne Goodson, Charde Houston, Taj McWilliams, Jia Perkins, Brandy Reed, and Tamika Whitmore have all been All Stars. McWilliams was a six time All Star.

The only fourth round pick to be an All Star was Sandy Brondello.

You mean an All Time list like this:

#13 is actually better than #12 in the limited sample size we have

NOTE this list does not include the Game at Radio City or the Stars at the Sun

Guess it's not good to be drafted #5 or #7.

Small sample size, and odd measurement, but this (thank pilight) reinforces the idea that there are tiers in the draft.

Picks 1-6 (roughly)
Picks 7-14 (roughly)
Picks 15+

The elite players are likely coming in the very first few names called in any draft; the next level includes just the top of the second round; and apres, le deluge.

This kind of info is especially valuable in constructing realistic trade scenarios. For example, unless a team is really bad, its second-round pick isn't that much worse than a third-round pick when it comes to getting a borderline all-star. Or, to put it another way, a second-pick is basically a bag of chips.

But then, a lot of people spend a lot of money on long-odds lottery tickets. And the GMs acquiring these things all think they're better at picking the numbers than everyone else Wink.
