According to THESE Lynx stats through July 9, the Sun take 40.4% of their FG attempts from 1-5 feet from the basket, whereas the Liberty take 29.1% of their shots from that distance.
Is it fair to conclude that Bill likes bigs but can't get them the ball on the low blocks? Or maybe the Lib can't drive or fast break.
Is the Sun really the best at these things? |

That's shots at the rim, so not necessarily low post game. You need a lot of context here.
For NYL, for example, they have a big front line, but Stokes is never going to be a primary focus on offense, Charles chucks a ton of midrange jumpers, and Vaughn gets most of her shots at the rim from offensive rebounds, otherwise she's not going to be very aggressive down there. Connecticut, on the other hand, relies a ton on dribble penetration and Jones and Alyssa spend most of their time in the paint.
I'm guessing Synergy would be a better source for specific offensive shots: post up, dribble drive, spot up, etc.

Maybe I should have called it low paint game rather than low post game if the latter term seems too specific.
A team can score in the low paint via shot making by players stationed in the low low paint whether they are post players or not, by rebound putbacks, by effective drives, and by layups to finish fast breaks.
In any of those events, it is my opinion that an offense that generates more low paint shots is generally better than one that generates fewer. It takes offensive sophistication to consistently free up space for shots in the low paint. In addition, drawing fouls is inversely proportional to the shooter's distance from the basket. |

The stats have been updated through July 16. Dallas has nudged ahead of CT 40.5% to 40.4%, but the NYL are still last at 29.9%. |
