What are your guys perception of Jasmine Thomas of the Sun? Do you think she's a good PG or terrible? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate her PG skills and her in-game decision making and why.

She's improved significantly under Curt. Don't know what I'd give her out of 10 but she was a liability for a long time. Not the case anymore.

She's emerged as a good starting PG considering her days in Atlanta. She gets the job done, but doesn't show anything special that would make her a top PG in the league.

She's got a very high basketball IQ. She does not have great skills.

yeah, I would say she tends to play smart, and I think how she's improved is that she now plays more within her skill set...which is mostly seeing the floor pretty well and getting the ball where it needs to go.

I believe the Boneyard calls her a poor man's Kelly Faris . . . but I could be mistaken about that. |

The advanced metrics aren't kind to her, and she certainly can't shoot, but she's athletic and from what I've seen, makes good decisions.
She's a starting point guard in the WNBA and she's durable, which counts for a lot. (Durability is an ability, or availability is an ability, take your choice.)
NBA and MLB evaluators use this phrase: "A second-division starter" and that's where I'd put Thomas. I don't think she could start for a first-place team, but she would help a contender coming off the bench.

I'd go with that - she is a 2nd tier player if you think the top tiers is Bird, Whalen, Vandersloot and Robinson.

All true. Jasmine was not a good PG in college and, until last season, wasn't even halfway decent at it in the WNBA. However, last season showcased her strengths, which are really strong - making the right pass, high octane defense - they got her the multi-year deal, which players at her level rarely get. Based on how well she played her role last season, it was deserved. After a total and complete implosion after Thibault was fired, this team started rising from the ashes and Jasmine was a big part of that. If USun ever wants to contend, they'll have to bring in a true PG and change Jasmine's role. She'll continue to be a high energy player, but for fewer minutes.

I grew to like Jas in Atlanta because good thing always seemed to happen when she was on the floor.

IMO, in ranking this year's current starting PGs. J. Thomas is below the pack & will only drop further when Vandersloot & Jefferson start playing.
1. Bird
2. Robinson
3. C. Gray
4. Clarendon
5. Pondexter*
6. Diggins-Smith
7. J. Thomas
8. Whalen
9. Toliver
10. January
11. Colson+
IR. Boyd
*will eventually be Vandersloot for Chicago
+will eventually be Jefferson for San Antonio

So I guess you penalize January because of her team's play. Interesting. She's playing pretty much the same as ever but her teammates aren't finishing for her. Her defense is one of the best, but perhaps that is not being considered either. [shrug]

I don't think I would rate C. Gray at 3.

I penalize January due to her performance this season . Yes expectations were a bit higher for her but to come out the first 3 games of the season with stat lines of
4 pts 4 asts
4 pts 0 Asts
23 pts 3 Asts ( not a good sign if your PG leads your scoring column)
With 9/26 fg's shooting a career low so far at 34.6 % speaks for its self.
