Hopefully Hebard is ready to battle again tomorrow. Russia took Canada out of the game early and just rolled. Assuming we start with the same plan and put Hebard on Vadeeva and let Alarie try to chase Musina around, I hope they bring their boxing gloves, hockey sticks, and whatever else they will need in the post. The guards will need to attack their defense and not just settle for jumpers.

The final should be on ESPN3 at 3pm ET, hopefully working from the start.

Here are the other games:
3rd: Japan vs Canada
5th: France vs Australia
7th: Spain vs China
9th: Hungary vs Latvia
11th: Italy vs Mexico
13th: Puerto Rico vs Mali
15th: South Korea vs Egypt

US beats Japan in the semis, 73-66, in a strangely competitive game. The game was tied in the mid-2Q when my streaming started, then the US went up over 20 points, and then Japan made an impressive comeback in the 4Q.

Ruthy Hebard had a monster game with 24 points, 14 rebounds and a 37 efficiency. Chennedy Carter had another big scoring game with 19 points along with seven rebounds. Ty Harris again scored and distributed well with 10 points and six assists.

The US will go against Russia's big bigs in the final.

USA vs. Russia Final: today at 3 pm EDT.

Should be on ESPN3 and may be here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z3MBLvmtyI

Russia has never beaten the USA in U19, but came within eight points in 2015.

Russia is leading the USA in the tournament in 3FG%, FT%, RPG, APG and BPG. USA is leading in 2FG%, SPG, TOPG, FBPPG, and bench PPG.

Russia's 6-4 Maria Madeeva is the second leading scorer in the tourney, the leading rebounder, the (tied) leader in double doubles, and the leader in EFFPG. Their 6-4 Raisa Musina is the second leading rebounder and third in EFFPG. Their 5-11 Daria Kurilchuk is third in 3FG%.

Russia significantly outplayed the USA with team offense in the first half: 50% to 44% FG%, 27 rebounds to 14, 10 assists to 5, and 24 points in the keyway to 18.

Except:

Russia committed 11 TO's to the USA's one, so the USA got 41 shots on goal to Russia's 32.

The USA is ahead because of superior ball-stealing defense, individual shot creation athletic moves, and a way-over-tourney-mean shooting performance so far by Crystal Dangerfield.

Very entertaining 1st half. Both teams playing well. Russia seems to score at will down low while nailing some 3's while the US is hitting from outside and evening Russia's advantage inside with 8 steals. US shooting 43% & Russia 50%. US with 9 more shot attempts, mostly due to steals.

42-36 at the half as the US ends the half on a small run.

Vadeeva with 8 points and 11 rebounds but commits a dumb foul (#3) with a second left in the half.

Dangerfield/Carter combine for 25 points in the half on 10-16 shooting.

It's Russia's size & strength vs US quickness. Russian leads in rebounding 27-14 while the US has 8 steals and 1 turnover to Russia's 0 steals and 11 rebounds.

Teamwork vs. individual athleticism. Which will last longer? Neither team playing good defense, except for the USA's steals.

If Holmes could make an unopposed layup Dangerfield would have 4 or 5 more assists.

Carter is a phenomenal shooter but Musina is using her on the other end.

This game has been orders of magnitude more entertaining than any WNBA game I watched this season.

Russia wins 86-82. A well deserved win. Teamwork beat great individual play.

Gary Blair must be smiling.

Wow, so that means she went 2 for 14 the rest of the way? Why is she shooting so much, if she's struggling to make shots? She should've distributed the ball more......

Terrific game, featuring two very different teams. Teamwork wins, barely.

Huge shots and huge misses by the USA's athletes.

Russia outshot USA 52%-40%, outrebounded 48-37, out-assisted 25-13, and out-pointed in the keyway 40-34.

Best game I've seen since UConn-MissST, and the contrast in styles made it even more interesting.

Got to give MVP to Musina, imo, even though Carter played supernaturally.

Another solid outing for Tyasha Harris, who scored 8 pts on 4 for 8 shooting, plus 9 assists and 3 steals. She was easily the team's best PG in this tournament: led the team in asst. per gm and steals per gm, and was the better perimeter shooter. I'm surprised she wasn't on the floor at the end of the game then....

I was thinking game MVP, but of course the award is tourney MVP. Vadeeva rightly got it.

Other all tournament team was Musina, Carter, Harris and the girl from Canada (?).

Harris was excellent all tourney.

After a great first quarter, Dangerfield's volume shooting for the final game (6-20) regressed exactly to her tournament mean, 30%.

For the tournament, Harris was superior to Dangerfield in:

-- APG: 5.7 to 3.7
-- ATO: 5.7 to 2.4
-- steals: 14-10
-- EffPG: 13.3 to 6.6
-- 2FG%: 45.5% to 30.4%
-- 3FG%: 37.5% to 26.9%
-- FT%: 81.8% to 61.5%

Dangerfield averaged 9.0 PPG vs. Harris's 8.0 PPG (on 82 shots vs. 46) and had two more rebounds for the tournament.

Another Kia Nurse moment for Glenn. I am sure Geno is going to want to take
back her scholarship after this. Very Happy Very Happy
