If I remember, I'll make a new ROY poll after the preseason to see if opinions have changed. Listed are the Top 14 draft picks.

18-day poll

Eight of the last nine ROY awards have gone to the #1 pick, with the other going to the #2 pick. This isn't an award where people come from nowhere to win.

Kiah Stokes should have won it in 2015.

In this draft theirs nobody that really has separated themselves talent wise. 1-10 could all win ROY with an exception of probably Ahkator

1.Plum
2.B.Jones
3.Gray
4.Coffey

I don't see any of the other players getting enough minutes/fg attempts to win ROTY.

Tell plight it's unusual for the #1 pick to come out of nowhere.

Don't let Curt Miller hear you say that, or he'll send you to the basement without dinner.

Plum is probably the only rookie that will likely be a starter. So it's Plum's to lose.

The Money Line: Odds, Prediction for WNBA Rookie of the Year

http://summitthoops.com/2017/04/28/wnba-rookie-odds/

Quote:
Of the previous 19 winnings of the ROY, 11 of them were the first overall pick. This trend has only increased in recent times. Since 2007, only two players won the award that weren’t the overall first pick; Armintie Herrington (third pick to the Chicago Sky) and Elena Delle Donne (second pick to the Sky).

I don't where he gets these odds, but the lower the number, the better the chances of winning ROY

Quote:
The Favorites
Kelsey Plum, San Antonio Stars (+500)
Allisha Gray, Dallas Wings (+600)
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Washington Mystics (+800)

The Dark Horses
Sydney Wiese, Los Angles Sparks (+1400)
Kaela Davis, Dallas Wings (+1900)
Lindsay Allen, New York Liberty (+3000)

I would slide SWK down into the Dark Horses pile. I see little chance of working her way to a starter's position over Hill.

Whoever wins the spot behind Phillips, assuming they don't slot Christmas as the SG like I've seen Spooner do, has the best chance of threatening Plum for playing time. Phillips is sorta like Leilani Mitchell. They might put her as a starter, but she has never been able to hold onto a starting position. Who knows what's going on in camp. You can assume Gray is the favorite for that spot, but maybe Davis is impressing.

I'd make a new category Long Shot and put Wiese and Allen there. Even if they make their teams, they're no better than deep benchers.

I think a meteor would have to hit the Sparks' training facility for Wiese to have a shot at RotY. It's Brian Agler and a rookie, on a team with 5 1/2 perimeter vets ahead of her. In fact her best chance at RotY might be to get cut in training camp and catch on quickly somewhere else. It ain't happening.

I do at least agree that Plum and Gray are the top two candidates, but that's hardly a giant leap of deduction.

I think Nia Coffey has a shot. I wish the Sky picked her at #2 as was rumored.

Plum scored a googolplex more points than anyone in her class, was a unanimous and consensus first team All-American, and swept every POY award.

Why should any of that change?

The race for second place could be competitive.

This award goes to the player who scores the most (This is why the idea that Stokes had any chance of winning was so silly). Would you bet on anyone scoring more than Plum? I sure wouldn't.

You nned minutes and points for ROY so I would put it in this descinding order

All Rookie Team
Plum
A. Gray
Coffey
B. Jones
Davis

HM
SWK
Sykes
McCall

I don't think anyone else will get enough floor time to jump up into the top 5.

Averaging 25.4 mpg vs 25.9 mpg shouldn't make much of any difference.

She didn't win either.

What was the minute comparison between Loyd and Stokes?

In that sense, Allen could easily be another Stokes.
