Wondering if there would be interest here in a "Tipping" Competition for this season? (which I think is called a "Pick 'em" competition in America?)
It's very popular down here for the football league and is a nice way to stay engaged with the league.

Basically each night (or at the start of each week, or whenever you feel like it) you log in to a website, check a few boxes to guess the winners of the next day's games, and the website keeps track of who is the best tipster, including updating the standings each week.
You can tip any game as early as you want, but each game would get locked out for tipping at a set time before its start time (I'm thinking maybe 6 hours, so that no one gets an unfair advantage due to receiving last-minute injury news and the like, but happy to discuss that one).

I think it could be fun thing if we could get a lot of people involved.

Cool.
Just to be clearer, if I get at least a dozen people interested (either by saying so here in this thread or by messaging me directly) I'll set it up

Sounds pretty cool. I'd try it. Also, I think it would be really interesting to see how the results of our polls would do at picking winners. In theory it might be better than any one person since it reflects the collective judgement - I think its called the Delphi technique.

I assume the prize for the winner is becoming a moderator, while the ultimate loser gets a ban for a year? Wink

Sounds fun.

And the winner gets to be a mod? Isn't that like saying the "winner" gets to have an unrelenting case of IBD? Talk about a Tom Sawyer whitewashing the fence moment! Wink

Looks like your resume could use an update, Admiral. Wink This one could be just the ticket.

Ok, that's definitely enough people to go ahead with it. I'll reply with further details once I have got it working.

Some nice suggestions above, btw Wink Twisted Evil

UPDATE
*******

Ok, the competition is set up.
* For the purposes of being able to regularly update the standings the season is split into "Rounds", which effectively are just weeks (Monday-to-Sunday)
* It runs for the regular season only
* All times listed are Eastern.
* If you spot any mistakes please let me know
* You can enter/change your tips as far in advance as you want, but every match is "locked down" 5 hours before tip-off.
* Failure to enter a tip for a game will get you automatically assigned the home team for that game
* I'm participating, but for impartiality I'll be tipping the home team in every game, and I've registered another user named "Rebkell Polls" whose tips will be based on the winners of the game day thread polls
* The competition will only be open to Rebkell members. Your username here will be your username on the tipping website. If you have not already done so, please either respond in this thread or PM me if you want to participate
* It's very quick & easy, so please join in! The interface looks like this:

I'm in as well. For people that are interested I am posting the odds to win the WNBA championship on a separate thread that will be up within a half hour. The oddsmakers see it as a three team race between LA, Minnesota and Phoenix.

UPDATE
*******

OK, here's the deal. Bookmark this page: https://www.faceyoursfears.com/games/WNBA17/tip.html
It's the home page of this tipping competition.

Go there and create an account, and please use your rebkell user name as your user name on that site.
It's open to everyone, but please either PM me or add a post to this thread if you want to participate (doing so helps me control the competition)

Again, you can make/change your selections at any time, but each match has a "lock down" deadline of 5 hours before tip-off, after which time you can't make changes for that match. (I know that's not ideal, but I just didn't want people getting an unfair advantage from things like last-minute injury status news)

One extra note about entering selections:
I just tried entering picks for only 2 games, and it didn't accept it - giving me the message "Please enter all your tips"
So unfortunately it looks like we need to tip the entire week up front.
HOWEVER, keep in mind that we are still able to go back after that and change selections at will - keeping in mind the "lockdown" deadline for each game of 5 hours before tip-off.

I forgot about the unusual 5-hour rule and got caught locked into my pick of SEA without Stewart and Bird... Confused

As I said in the original post, I'm happy to discuss that setting and adjust it. But not retrospectively.

I'm only okay with it retrospectively, and only when it is in my favor.

Sound good?

Ironically, the only game I've missed this week was when I picked against Atlanta.
