I dislike all-star games in general, but this one is particularly awful.
It's really, really hard to watch and it's a terrible advertisement for the girls' game.

Really? Young, Slocum, and Johnson all outplayed Holmes and Dangerfield. Unless 5-18 or 2-8 shooting really impresses you.
Johnson had more points, MUCH better percentage, more rebounds, more blocks, than Holmes, with no turnovers. Played a much better game than Holmes. Which pretty much tells you how meaningless these games are.

Sorry, but I've never seen her in person. However, she looks like she has some slashing, quickness and shooting magic in videos like this one:

i think my point was more focused on how good the game was . Not specifying how good each player played . Overall it was a great game period thats what im referring to.

Did no one watch the skills competition?
Can I say who won?
Maya Dodson (Stanford) was the only girl in the slam dunk contest. She didn't win.
Anastasia Hayes (Tennessee) won the mixed team shooting contest, which was composed of a girl, a boy and a retired pro star, who had to complete four shots in the shortest time. It's sort of meaningless and dopey.
The 3pt contest is a meaningful skill test. One of the girls was the overall winner (20 points), beating all the other girls and boys. One of the other girls was the overall loser (8 points), confirming my impression from USA Basketball that she doesn't have a good outside shot. |

What's specifically bad about the McD's game in your estimation?
The few times I've watched it, it's been a showcase for ball-hogging point guards. Basically the routine was: someone either gets the rebound on a missed shot and passes to whoever is in at point guard, or inbounds to her. Then she dribbles upcourt and chucks. No one else touches the ball.
I don't know if other all star games are like that, or even if McD's is usually like that.

Geez, Clay, it's an all-star game. Don't like it? Don't watch.

I don't watch ... I just said I don't like it, or any all-star games. Some people do, but ratings for things like the NBA All-Star game are declining steadily.
The reason was mentioned above: It's not basketball (or baseball or football). Some people enjoy the hoopla, and they'll have a good time watching it.

I turned this on about 15 minutes late. Couldn't tell what was going on. The announcers didn't give any play by play, didn't say who was playing, didn't say who made plays, didn't talk about the game. Just talked for the next 15 minutes about UConn while a game of some sort appeared to be going on in the background.
I turned it off and deleted the recording from my DVR.

Boothe looks good. She is listed at 6'1", is playing against Kakala 6'3" and they look the same height.
White, Goudreau, Holmes & Boothe will be a deep front line

Hayes and Coombs played with a lot of energy and actually tried to play defense and the star of the game was Boothe who made 4 3's and also got a couple of offensive boards and scored.

Game went into OT.
Year after year in this game, the announcers almost never tell us who has the ball, who shot it or who has how many points and rebounds -- even though the very purpose of the game is for fans to scope out players with whom they are unfamiliar.
Texas's two recruits showed out the best. Rellah Boothe was POG and Chasity Patterson had double digit points in addition to winning the 3pt contest.
They were hyping Megan Walker a lot as the ESPNW #1 player, and she probably got double figures but took a lot of shots to do so, none of them from any distance. Walker was the worst performer in the 3pt contest.
I couldn't get a handle on the performance of anyone else, mainly because the announcers so rarely said who they were. |

+1 Rellah Definitely stood out . She wanted the ball heck she demanded the ball! Her confidence is through the roof. Her Megatron & Evina Should make a great. Battle for NFOY next year. Imo and its based off this game only might I add , but Megatron will NOT be the #1 Player in this class by year 4.
