A very simple question: what was the very best game in women's basketball history that did not involve either Pat Summitt as Tennessee HC or Geno Auriemma as UConn HC?

The 1993 NCAA tournament final. Sheryl Swoopes and Texas Tech beat Katie Smith and Ohio State 84-82. Swoopes was in the zone like no player I've ever seen, finishing with 47 points.

Including 1995 there have been 22 games and only 6 fit your criteria. Not much to choose between.

The 1994 final between UNC and La Tech where Charlotte Smith hit that 3 at the buzzer was pretty great too. Even though the basket shouldn't have counted because Stephanie Lawerence, who inbounded the ball, travelled.

The question didn't specify NCAA tournament title games. If you include all non-Pat non-Geno games, there are tons of candidates...Div 2 or 3 games, big upsets, big stomp-downs, in-state rivalries, etc.

Probably the right choice.

The Maryland/Duke final in 2006 ranks up there.

I liked the 2015 game where a Banham-less Gopher team gave the AP 12th ranked Maryland all they could handle with a final score of 77-73. Score was tied with 32 secondseason left. http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/011115aac.html

Liked the Gopher OT win over AP 5th ranked Ohio St last season even better.

That was an exciting ending, but it was a terrible game. Back when they played two days in a row, both teams were obviously tired, and the officiating was horrible -- tons of fouls called that slowed the game to a crawl.

Most people won't remember this one but 1986 -- La. Tech storms back from 16 down in the 2nd half to beat Auburn by 2.

Teresa Weatherspoon crouching at mid-court with her hands on the hardwood waiting to take the ball from Auburn's poor guards --- that's a picture I'll always remember.

My candidate would be that 1983 NCAA Championship Game between USC and Louisiana Tech.

Enjoyed the 1999 title game, Carolyn Peck's second and last season at Purdue. Ukari Figgs and Steph White were money in that game as Goestenkors' Duke team fell. White messed up her ankle near the end and begged to go back in as a passer but the coach wouldn't let her. Figgs got the well-earned MVP.

Baylor over LSU in the 2005 Semifinal. Baylor was down 24-9, but came back to win.

I don't know if this topic is supposed to be limited to NCAA1 tournament games or NC games, but my favorite game in the tournament was probably Shoni Schimmel's gigantic upset defeat of Brittney Griner.

Let's face Freudian facts, it's psychologically depressing and demoralizing for opposing fans to tolerate a dominant team like Griner's Baylor for two whole years in a row.

Stanford vs. Maryland, 2008 Elite Eight when the Cardinal finally broke through to their first final four in a decade.

Since I was not sure if this was about the tournament game or any NCAA WBB game - I'd say:

No. 3 Virginia 123, No. 2 NC State 120 (3OT)
No. 14 Virginia 108, No. 16 Maryland 105 (3OT)
No. 2 Virginia 75, No. 1 Maryland 74
Alabama 121, Duke 120 (4OT)
No. 7 Virginia 77, No. 3 UNC 75
No. 2 Virginia 74, No. 24 Stephen F. Austin 72

Of course, I'm biased.
