I think it's a pretty even matchup. So it depends on who comes to play. Trite but true. Of course, all the 'experts' pick FSU so maybe that will work as a challenge for the Beavs.

For FSU sometimes it's as simple as whether Thomas is making her shots. 'Cause she's going to take a lot.

8-2 OSU with 7:30 left in the 1st.

Make that 10-2 OSU, and FSU calls a timeout.

OSU is suddenly an offensive Juggernaut. Nice to see a team that doesn't have nerves at the start.

15-4 OSU with 4 minutes left in the 1st. Did not expect this at all, thought it would be a close game throughout.

21-6 OSU with 2 minutes left in the 1st. This is going to be hard to come back from for FSU. OSU can slow tempo and can defend.

Come on FSU. First game I'm able to watch today! I'd like it to be a good one!!!!

FSU can't make a basket.

OSU can't miss!

yuck 4 pt play to end the qtr. I don't think the Beavs want Orum making decisions with the ball.

This wouldn't be the first big game in which Chatrice White has simply vanished.

When Notre Dame beat FSU handily the last game of the regular season (for the ACC regular season title) White ended up taking one shot and missing it for zero pts.

When they lost to Miami in the ACCT she had 8 pts and 3 rebounds.

She's sort of big and lumbering and has no real moves other than a bull rush to the rim.

Sure looked like that should have been FSU ball on the baseline. Looked like the OSU player had her hand on the ball when her foot was out of bounds.

O reverting to stodgy, Wiese-a-dribble offense in 2Q, in which they score only 12 points.

I wouldn't feel too comfortable if I were Ore St. It seemed they completely dominated, but only lead by five at the half.

As I wrote early in this thread

She was 2 for 9. If she starts making some, the complexion of this game could change pretty quickly.

If Weise can't make her shots OrSU can't win. I don't know what happened to her three ball but that's a huge factor. Normally she's money on that screen from Gulich that sets her up. Tonight, big goose egg from three.

Thomas can't hit the barn from 3 feet: 4-14.

Wiese with 5 TO's.

Close game.

I've never understood why a player who can't hit just keeps hoisting instead of driving and/or dishing.

OSU's offense is frankly much better when Wiese is not dribbling or shooting. Pass it into those bigs in the post. Run backdoors off screens. Pick and roll.

Message to Dave P. -

They don't change the arrow until the throw in is complete. OSU player still had the ball in her hands, so therefore the table was correct in not changing the arrow until the violation.

They won with Thomas shooting 5-17. That's the biggest surprise to me.

It gave me vibes of Oregon State's game vs. Stanford in the Pac12 title game. Huge offensive production in the 1st quarter and then it vanishes and they lose.

I don't think the Pac-12 tournament or this one have helped Weise's WNBA draft position.

agree. but She's the reason they got this far and I've never seen her do an 0-10 wide open on most of those threes before so I think the scouts will be looking at her body of work, not one or two games... I still think she's going to make someone a nice SF, but she won't (as I've said repeatedly) be playing PG at the next level. If she drops in the draft, some team will get a nice gift.

Weise was 3 for 14 and 0-10 from 3pt in this game. In the last 4 games she was 17 for 77 and 5 for 33 from three. It seems when she is not hitting her shots the Oregon offense just stalls. That is why I don't care for teams that rely too much on one player.

While I think the Oregon st coach is a good coach, in this game he didn't make any of the necessary adjustments on either offense or defense. FS did not make any 3s and had very few attempts from that range. They killed Oregon by penetrating and hitting most of their shots in the key. They were obviously quicker than OS yet the coach did not switch to a zone and challenge them to hit outside shots. As a result they constantly either beat the OS players off the dribble or using picks. As a coach you just don't continue to ride an obviously lame horse.

Which stat are you looking at? Perhaps it is Hall's 36% 2 pt shooting compared to Weise at 45.7; or Hall's 31.2% from three compared to Weise's 47.2%; or maybe Hall's 79.3% from the FT line compared to Weise's 84.1%?
Maybe you meant that she chucks it up there more frequently? Like 21 attempts at that 36 % rate compared to Weise's piddly 10.8 attempts at 45.7?
And let's see their A/TO. Oh that's good too. Hall gets 2.3 Assists to 4.1 TO while Weise gets 4.7 assists to 2.8 TOs.

Sorry blues. I'm guessing you based that statement on what you saw in this game and it's easy to get carried away by fandom, but this game is really unusual for Weise as you can tell from the stats. Like Hall, Weise has been the go-to player in crunch time and she usually comes through. In this game, it was shocking to see her miss open shot after open shot. And like Hall, I'm sure she felt personally responsible that her team lost their last game of her career. I'm assuming she will be spending the next several weeks working to get that shot back from wherever it disappeared to.

Not to mention that Hall is 5'8" while Weise is over 6 ft, which considering neither one is going to be a WNBA POINT guard is a big plus for Weise, or that Weise has earned her superior stats against much more difficult competition.

She reminds me a lot of Katie Gearlds out of Purdue: same height, build and level of athleticism. She was the #7 pick to SEA in a very weak 2007 draft. She eeked out a three year career as a mostly three point specialist off the bench. But that was 10 years ago when the talent level wasn't as good. Weise... maybe she makes a final roster if she falls into the right situation.

The Weisner fannies are handing over their "Draft Weisner" signs to the Wiese fannies.

The Gearlds comparison is a good one. I was also thinking the other day that Wiese reminds me a lot of Gearlds. Physically it is an easy comparison, and they are also both known for their outside shooting. Gearlds was always kind of a borderline talent and then the knee injury (PCL, iirc) was the end of it. Will Wiese have any more success making a roster and an impact for a team? I don't know. I'm biased, no doubt, so I'll say I believe with the right fit she makes a roster. Beyond the talent, she's a smart player and a great leader, and I think it is a personality that would fit with the Storm. Just my biased opinion.

I agree that Geralds is an interesting and somewhat apt comparison although I don't think Katie played the point in college. I think Weise's understanding of the game and that PG mentality/approach will benefit her... as she plays SF in the W.
