Here's Coach P's chance to once again lead her team further in the NCAA Tournament than Coach K. Cool

Lexie Brown played PG for two seasons at Maryland but has been more of a SG at Duke. I saw an article about Lambert's injury and Brown seems to indicate that they are better when she is point guard. She had 9 assists and like 1 turnover so I'm guessing they will be fine. Teams tend to cut their rotation down in the tourney anyways so this would likely only be an issue if Brown was saddled in foul trouble.

“I’ll have to take more of the point guard responsibilities,” Brown said. “We’re most successful when I’m running the point and Becca is on the wing. We want to stick to what we’ve been doing all season long and this gives us a little extra motivation, playing for your teammate that’s down.” http://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2017/03/duke-womens-basketball-adjusting-on-the-fly-ahead-of-ncaa-tournament-second-round-matchup-against-no-10-seed-oregon

The problem is really that they haven't been very deep at guard. So Lambert is the #3 guard, but she has almost as many assists as Brown does and nobody else is even close. She can also shoot the three if needed. Maybe a bench player will step up big, but they really haven't gotten much off their bench at guard thus far this year.

Sounds like Duke only has 8 active players. They lost Lynee Belton on March 13.

Quote:
“Well, we are now the Electric Eight,” McCallie said of her shrinking rotation, which also lost sophomore Lynee Belton to a knee injury in practice on March 13. “We went from the Nasty Nine to the Electric Eight. It means that everyone is going to play. That is a good thing.”

Oregon's patience against this matchup zone is impressive considering they start 3 freshmen.

10 seed Oregon up 40-31 with 6:09 left in the 3rd. Oregon has led almost the whole game, what a strong showing on the 2 seed's home court with such a young team.

Hebard is very good for a freshman. Guess being from Alaska kept her from being more well known prior to this season but she's going to be great over the next few years.

Oregon's passing has been tremendous so far. They are really picking apart Duke's defense.

In a close game between two teams with shooters, this could be the difference. Greenwell 0-6, Bando for Oregon is 1-7 from 3 and I think she is one of the better shooters nationally from 3. If one of them can hit a couple maybe that could be the difference in a close game.

Duke got within like 2 or 4 but Oregon ends on a run and is now up eleven after 3. Bando hit a big 3, she had been struggling.

We'll see if they get freshman jitters. 11 sounds like a lot but a couple of Brown or Greenwell 3's and they are right in this.

Wow, back to back threes by Oregon, one from Bando and one from Cazorla and now #10 seed Oregon is up FIFTEEN on #2 Duke on Duke's home court. 7:54 left.

Maybe Oregon looks way better than normal because Duke is stuck in this zone but doesn't it look like they have the pieces to give Maryland a game? Oregon is outrebounding a big Duke team. They can throw Hebard, McGwire, and Vandenburg at Brionna Jones. They have a bunch of good three point shooters, and Maryland has struggled defending the 3.

Personnel wise Duke would have been way better off playing 7 seed Temple, they wouldn't be carving up the zone like this, they have good one on one players like Fitzgerald and Butts, but yeah this is a situation where an upset looks to help you but it doesn't, when Duke was scouting their potential 2nd round opponent.

If Duke loses, how do you evaluate their season? Losing Salvadores and Stevens, no one could expect that they would be 28-5, ACC tournament runner up, #2 seed. But to lose on your home court as a 2 seed in the 2nd round to a 10 seed is rough. I hate judging a season on one game but it has to sting for Duke.

Lexie Brown's body language is not very good for a floor general who is supposed to be a leader. Reminds me a little of DeShields, they just seem mopey when things aren't going great. She is having a very strong game but man try to rally the troops, give your teammates positive encouragement. Not seeing those intangibles you see from the best PG's.

They lost their point guard in the last game too. Down to eight players tonight.

I'm sure it stings, but I don't think it detracts from a good season.

Fist pumping so hard for Oregon right now. Anyone who says the Pac-12 is a "weaker" conference than anyone else hasn't been paying attention, and this proves it.
