Gotta love underdogs! Second yr in row no#1 seed goes down to #8 seed. MAC West Division so brutally competitive this year. Congrats to Western MI in win over CMU.

Sorry Charlie Crème, no auto bid for CMU. Time to revise NCAA bracket and give MAC WBB in total more respect, please.

Like Charlie has anything to do with the bracket... LOL. All he does is try to predict what the NCAA will do, and he puts the #1 seed from each conference in a holding spot until/if someone else wins their tourney.

That being said, I'd like to see CMU get in as an at large. Losing to an RPI 171 team will hurt.

Agree. Would love to see CMU or any MAC team receive at large bid. Sigh.

Watching NIU v Ohio on local station, BCSN, now. They are showing all MAC Women Basketball games from quarterfinals on this year. Should be another good game.

So, in checking the scores from the second game, Ohio was ahead the whole game and had a 15 point lead with 8:50 left. They made only one field goal the rest of the game and lost to Northern Illinois 72-71.

No#1,2,3 seeds fall in MAC Tourney! Parity reigns! Toledo moves on to play Buffalo. Monakana scored 15 pt, Bravo-Harriet 14, and senior Center Sophie Reecher was player of game w/11 pts. Starting C Mc Intyre in foul problems and Sophie really stepped it up. Defense held Kent to 7 pts in 4th quarter. Ptg Mikala Boyd also really delivered in 4th quarter as well, not unusual for her-always a stellar player and stat stuffer.

Toledo over Buffalo 72-65 in another defense-oriented game. Fr ptg from Italy, M. Santucci scored a career high of 21 pts. As she has learned D1 ropes, her offensive game has been really elevated.

Ptg M.Boyd, as usually, really brought it with another double double , scoring 10 pts/11 rebs,5 assts, & 3 steals. Boyd is a soph. ptg who had ACL surgery last yr and is in her 1rst yr back. She is the shortest player on the floor but hustles for most rebounds every game. Bravo-Harriet produced 12 pts/5 rebs. Monakana scored 9 pts w/8 rebs. McIntyre contributed 9 pts/5 rebs and Cunningham scored 8 pts off bench.

The bench contributed solid minutes, pts, rebs etc... Coach Cullop, who won her 201rst game w/this win, rotated bench players in to rest starters and give different looks to basket. She emphasized guard play in second half which payed off in scoring margin.
Defense was able to limit Smith's touches and scoring drives, which always makes an impact when Toledo has played Buffalo.

Depend on tomorrow's MAC Tourney final match up to be very defense driven also, but with the difference for Toledo exhibited in heavier reliance on starters and the inside/outside games of Monakana and Bravo-Harriet. Expect McIntyre to step it up inside. The Rockets will definitely have to limit NIU's scoring attempts, especially from the 3 point line. The Rockets must attempt to limit/block Lehman's scoring attempts in same way they were able to defuse Buffalo's Smith(easier said then done). They have done this before effectively. Transition defense/offense/rebounding and periodic reliance on deep, experienced bench should serve Toledo well.

This game, as the MAC West and Tourney has gone, is a complete toss-up in terms of predicting a winner. At least all of Toledo starters are healthy now as compared to earlier conference play.

Buffalo's loss means that nine different schools will have won the MAC tournament in the last 10 years. The only team to have won it twice in that decade was Bowling Green, with back to back wins in 2010 and 2011. Neither Toledo nor Northern Illinois has won it in that time period. The parity in this one-bid league makes a tournament championship very memorable.

Strikes me as really great....more parity is good.

I turned on the game when it was 54-50 NIU.

Well Toledo's about to add to the mix. They were trailing but have staged a huge 4th quarter rally to take a 9 point lead with five minutes to go.

Beautiful defense at the 3-point line by Toledo in this final stretch. They know what NIU needs to do and they've shut it down.

I'm glad to see Toledo head coach Tricia Cullop make it to the NCAA tourney. In nine years at Toledo, she's coached a WNIT champ and had a couple teams that had solid claims to an at-large NCAA bid, but none had made it in, until now. Toledo is dancing for the first time since 2001, and becomes the highest seed, at #6, to win the MAC tournament.

I'm trying to understand why Coach Carlsen didn't call a timeout with about 6 minutes to go in the 4th after 3-4 empty possessions. But, either team winning works for me. The MAC was an entertaining conference this year. What Coach Carlsen did with NIU in just two years is amazing. Looking forward to see what next year brings.
