http://mercury.wnba.com/news/dewanna-bonner-miss-2017-season-due-pregnancy/

Quote:
Bonner: “I am so happy to announce that I’m expecting. I have always wanted a family and I have looked forward to this chapter of my life. While I am disappointed to miss the 2017 season with my Mercury family, this was the right decision for me right now. Don’t worry, X-Factor, I will still be around this summer, and I will be back and better than ever in 2018!”

Congratulations DB and CanDu!

Will her core designation automatically transfer to next season?

Since DeWanna is so skinny, will pregnancy weight simply make her look normal? Smile Also, any team that still wants to trade for Bonner will now have to include a draft pick to account for the baby. Wink

Congratulations to both.

No, they would have to core her again. However, since she isn't playing as a core player the number of times she can be cored will not change.

Hopefully this news being official now ends all that nonsense about the Mercury being a contender this season.

Congrats DeWanna! Smile

Why is Bonner saying that she will be in Phoenix this summer if she can't play and her spouse is in Indiana?

Might as well hang with the team if you're getting paid.

Barfcoff is so full of shit. When he's first to post something he accuses everyone else of ripping him off, but today he said that people who posted this before him are losers who have nothing better to do than follow the league all day long. And the way he talks about every player being his close personal friend is so pathetic and lame.

As much as I love Dupree, Little will bring defense. It is losing Bonner to pregnancy that compounds the loss of the retiring Taylor. However, I still believe the Mercury will be rather competitive.

Have never been a fan of the guy. His nastiness negates any positive promotion of the league.

Little is a better player at this point. I've always thought she was underrated.

No she's not, at least not with CT the past two seasons. She does play somewhat ok defense, but her efficiency while on the court has been terrible the past 2 years.

If a Bone for Langhorne trade would happen, then PHX could be looking like this

Robinson/Xargay
Taurasi/Mitchell/Harden
Little/Petrovic
Langhorne/George
Griner/Alleyne

Who would they be Tanking in favor of >? KLS ? or K. Brown ? wont see any benefits of tanking til 2019 though.

Taurasi doesn't have enough years left to be throwing any away in hope of a draft pick.

And yet he feels he would be an awesome PR person. Or marketer. Or WNBA president. I think he's hoping the exaggerated b.s. he posts on his site will be noticed by someone who will hire him.

I will be interested to see if Camille finds a new defensive intensity in Phoenix. She will spread the floor a bit more than Dupree did. So much of this season will depend on whether Taurasi is happy or frustrated.

KLS and K. Brown are in the 2019 draft.

exactly so tanking would not be beneficial unless they tank next year also .

PHX finished at 16-18 for 8th place in the league in 2016. That sets them up decently for the 2018 draft. PHX would have trouble wrestling the best odds away from SAN unless SAN would finish above .500, but PHX has never needed to have the best odds to do well in the lottery.

Anyway, my view is there is no need to tank for the 2018 draft unless you're in love with Wilson. Plenty of good players for every team in the first round.

Next year's draft would have A'ja Wilson, Monique Billings, Jordan Canada, Gabby Williams, Brooke McCarty, Kia Nurse, Brianna Turner, Lexie Brown, and (I still think) Kelsey Mitchell. Pretty sure the lottery picks will be pretty valuable.
