Number of Women Coaching in College has plummeted in Title IX Era

Quote:

In 1972, when the gender equity law known as Title IX was enacted, women
were head coaches of more than 90 percent of women’s college teams across
two dozen sports. Now that number has decreased to about 40 percent.

Geno Auriemma On Decrease In Female Basketball Coaches: Ladies Just Don't Want To Coach, Duh [Updated]

His attitude doesn't help the situation. Note that his own daughter is appalled.

Geno always finds something dumb and controversial to say right as the F4 begins. It takes the pressure off the team because all the media is focused on him. Last year he elevated that Dan Shaugnessy nonsense. The year before that he said the men's game was boring. Before that it was lowering the rims.

Where are the data on qualified applicants for open coaching positions? If only 56% are female, then I'd expect only 56% of coaches to be female. This article is pointless without more information. Geno may be right, but without more info, I can't support or condemn him either way.

There are also more teams since Title IX went into effect.

Right, but we're talking about percentages, and those percentages are dropping in other sports too.
