So, it's probably way too early for this, but what are your predictions for the 2017 season? Who becomes a break out star? Who are the best teams in the West and East, etc. And, of course, who has a chance at winning it all?

Some of my predictions:
*The Liberty or Mystics will be the #1 team in the East.
*Same for the Lynx and Sparks.
*The Storm will improve significantly.
*The Mercury will be the 7th/8th team in the playoffs, if they make them.
*The Mystics will either be championship contenders, or stay mediocre.
*I don't think it's a done deal for the Sky to be a lottery team.

As a Libs fan I appreciate the respect shown toward them but I don't see them as #1 in the East just yet. I feel like one way or another we will see them make a fairly impactful move to get bigger at the 3 spot and to clear the logjam of guards. At least I hope so.

My standings...
1. Washington
2. New York
3. Chicago
4. Connecticut
5. Indiana
6. Atlanta

1. Minnesota
2. Seattle
3. LA
4. Dallas
5. SA
6. Phoenix

The top three in the West depend hugely on veteran health and young player development. More than usual, even.

Again, Phoenix with Griner, Taurasi, Robinson, etc. should still be better than Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, etc.

Everyone pegging Chicago as a mediocre-to-good team...why? I need to see what they do with #2 and how Stocks is as a HC before taking them out of lottery discussion...

On paper, Chicago still looks better than Dallas, Atlanta & San Antonio. I'd peg them into a #7 or #8 seed.

Who is in the way-too-early title discussion?
Lynx obviously. They just keep finding ways to boost their already excellent team.
Losing Toliver hurts LA, but I still rate them as finals possibilities if they can make use of the (Very good) talent they still have.

Anyone else though? It seems to me like a significant gap from the top 2 to the next best. I'd like to think the Mystics can take a big leap this season but there are obviously a lot of unknowns with them as well.

The Mystics & Liberty are the big question marks. How soon will the Mystics gel? Will sliding Meesseman over to center hurt or help them? For the Liberty, will a three guard line-up work for them? How much has Zahui B., Boyd & Allen progressed?

My predictions

EDIT: Screwed up my play-off match-ups. It's been fixed.

EAST
1. New York
2. Washington
3. Indiana
4. Chicago
5. Connecticut
6. Atlanta

WEST
1. Los Angeles
2. Minnesota
3. Seattle
4. Phoenix
5. San Antonio
6. Dallas

PLAY-OFFS
#5 Seattle def. #8 Phoenix
#7 Chicago def. #6 Indiana

2ND ROUND
#3 New York def. #7 Chicago
#4 Washington def. #5 Seattle

SEMIFINALS
#4 Washington def. #1 Los Angeles 3-2
#2 Minnesota def. #3 New York 3-1

FINALS
#2 Minnesota def. #4 Washington 3-1

toad, please don't advance Phoenix to the second round after being defeated by Seattle. If anyone thought the "tanking" discussions were bad, advancing even though you lose would throw the conspiracy theories into a frenzy that might smoke the board.

I 100% agree on DC and NYL... also I'm pretty sure this is the first time anyone's predicted the Mystics to be in the finals in about seven years Laughing I'm cautiously optimistic, but hope we can pull it off. Mystics v Liberty matchups are going to be really fun this year

Nothing has changed. The Storm won the title in 2010 with the 2nd worst starting PF in the league. Its about the team and finding the right mix/balance. Phoenix has enough offensive power on their starting unit with Griner and Taurasi. They need people that do the dirty work and work hard and that is what Little brings.

They need some firepower on their bench though..

1. Minnesota
2. Los Angeles
3. New York
4. Washington
5. Phoenix
6. Seattle
7. Dallas
8/9. Indiana and Chicago fight for that last playoff spot

10. San Antonio
11/12 Connecticut /Atlanta

*Little is 7 years older than she was in 2010.
*In 2010 Little shot 50/35/71,last year she shot 38/32/63,big decline
*In 2010 Bird was a all league pg
*Lauren Jackson won the MVP
*S.Cash played like an all-star 13.8p/6r
*Bonner's intentions for the 2017 season is still unknown
*The quality of competition is much greater than it was in 2010.There were no wnba teams on the level of Minnesota & Los Angeles. The 2nd best team in the western conference in 2010 won 15 games.
*Which phoenix mercury team is going to show up ? In the last 10 seasons the mercury have finished sub .500 4 times and won the championship 3 times.

Will Little help Phoenix ? Yes.....Can phoenix win a championship with Little ? Yes,but only if Bonner(MCcoughtry) is the starting SF,and they add some bench depth (Trade Bone for Langhorne,Achonwa,Peters, etc). I'm predicting phoenix will finish 5th without Bonner. If Bonner plays,i'll move them up to 3rd.The biggest key for phoenix imo is making B.Griner the #1 option on offense.Griner needs to embrace the role of being a go-to 20-25 ppg scorer.

Bonner committing to playing this season will bring Phoenix up to a #3/#4 seed. Their starters would be Robinson/Taurasi/Bonner/Little/Griner. That's solid. Plus having Mitchell, Murphy, Petrovic, Xargay, etc. off the bench. And I'm beginning to believe Bone will be involved in a sign & trade deal. Bone to Seattle for Langhorne? Bone to Minnesota for the #12 pick?

I feel like I'm the only one who has accepted that Phoenix is gonna suck this season.
I love D-Rob but I don't think her addition makes up for what we're losing from last season's team, and that team was mediocre.

That would be an All-WNBL team

If they were gonna do that, then why waste the #6 pick on Swords? Seems like they made the commitment to Swords as their starting center.

Reeve said she's adopted a "no boneheads" policy, and I gotta believe Bone has shown too much potential to be a bonehead. I'm a little nervous that Pierson is gonna violate this policy, but Reeve should know better than I.

I was more responding on your comment about 2nd worst starting. IMO there is no dropoff from last seasons Dupree to Little this season. She will be upgrade on defense for sure The chemistry last season was OFF for some reason.

The dropoff will be because they no longer have Penny Taylor. She was the glue to this team IMO. She was also good friends with Bonner so Bonner no longer having her on the team+her wife shipped off to another team will probably hurt

Their best players are very young so IMO they need a couple solid vets to make them playoff material. Also i wonder what Vicky s plans are for this team

Rookie head coach, zero bigs they can be legitimately confident of getting production from, McBride coming off an injury - considering that's all on top of a 7-27 season last year, you can understand why most people aren't going to predict they'll win many games.

It's not impossible that they'll be decent, but a whole bunch of things need to break in the right direction.
