This is a shit show. A horror for all of us. It's also a window, for anyone under the age of 25, into how the real world works at its real-world worst.

I can't get the image out of my mind last night of CNN running promos for this with jump cuts of John Dean's Watergate testimony. This guy IS Donald Trump, not John Dean. Slippery snake, back-to-back lies with return trips, etc. And most disastrously for anyone hoping this would be the end of Donald Trump, just like his former boss, he's easily tripped up and angered and put on the defensive. And then the lies flow like water. And that's what the Republicans did and are doing and the result WILL BE, I predict, and yes, I can be wrong, rarely, but I think this... just ugh. I can't even go there.

The southern district's assessment of this guy's character is psychiatric grade. Spot fucking on. Nailed it. Unfortunately, the Mueller team gave a different assessment. I believe that too will be devastating to the credibility and the faith that a large portion of the American people will have in whatever Mueller comes up with.

This guy IS Donald Trump. He is straight out of central casting for the role of Donald Trump's long-time lawyer/fixer. The most damaging thing for Trump, and yeah, the day is young, that I foresee coming out of this, for anyone smart enough to look at things just beneath the surface veneer, is the realization of the reality that THIS was Donald Trump's lawyer. Yes. HE TAINT'S TRUMP! lol. That the President of the United States would have a guy like this on board longterm IS damning to the POTUS. But I think it's too late for Democrats to spin this around from that angle.

Lawyers can be Abe Lincoln. But in the real world lawyers are far too often scumbag lying pieces of shit who have no respect or relationship or need for the concept of truth who represent individuals who are even worse. This is the Cohen/Trump relationship in a nutshell. Bad day for everyone and every thing in America.

The only "big reveal" I've seen so far is that Cohen admitted that President Trump never actually told him to lie. The rest of this is just window dressing and unsubstantiated rhetoric from a man who has been convicted of lying under oath and is looking to get revenge and a reduction on his prison sentence.

Honestly, even that is a more euphemistic assessment of what’s happening. This guy is serving up shit tacos, which happen to be his speciality, as he has spent his career serving up shit tacos, on behalf of a guy who eats shit taco salads.

CNN and the John Dean thing. I’m just. I need a nap.

They are obsessed with this damn book deal that doesn't exist yet. I want Cohen to write his book and when it's published, he should come back and beat every one of these dumbasses with it. Be a messy bitch and thank these republican reps in the dedication.

If you’re convinced he does nothing but lie, why would he tell the truth about Trump not telling him to lie?

Let’s go Ms Pressley!

The point of this committee is to determine if the trust of the American people has been broken and that’s what we’re doing!

AOC is trying to make the point that Trump devalued his assets to avoid paying taxes which is financial fraud. We would need to see his tax returns and other financial documents to make those connections.

Weisselberg would know all of this and those documents are at Trump Org.

These last few Dems are doing great by asking questions along the same lines about finances.

It was nice to see Justin Amash getting some air time. I disagree with most of his policy views, but I sincerely respect him. He is basically what Rand Paul pretends to be.

And I'm just going to throw this here, for hopefully obvious reasons:

Afternoon took a nice turn. AOC is really a star. She likes to work at a clip. And with the quality of the questions she asks, that pace really works in the theater of this type of proceeding to create a cohesive narrative. She was able to de-emphasize Cohen and use him to create a picture of Donald Trump.

Stone last month said Trump told Mueller, truthfully and honestly, that Stone and Trump never talked about wikileaks, emails, Assange. How would Stone know this?

Cohen's testimony today contradicts such a scenario.

And that's just a tiny bit of the Iceberg of Corruption that is Donald J.
Trump.

So much more to come.

Where's my SDNY hat?

I read Cohen's opening statement last night and watched the hearing. Everything Cohen testified about has been publicly reported and known for a long time, and has been discussed on cable news shows and in many columns in political and legal publications for months.

Since this thread is about impeachment, and since looking for impeachment fodder was the Democrat's obvious purpose in this hearing, I'll limit my comments to that issue.

Impeachment has to be for something Trump did as president. That something has to be either a crime or an abuse of presidential power. Cohen testified about only one thing that occurred after Trump became president: Trump signed a check to Cohen in August 2017.

Was that an abuse of presidential power? Of course not.

Was that a crime? Extremely unlikely. It has long been public knowledge, and admitted by Trump, that Trump repaid Cohen for the $130,000 that Cohen had paid out of his own pocket to Stormy Daniels for her silence, a debt that Trump incurred in October 2016 before he became president. Such sexual hush money contracts are perfectly legal. Repaying a legitimate money debt to Cohen was also perfectly legal.

The only possible legal issue is a farfetched one -- namely, that the $130,000 was an excessive campaign contribution by Cohen. He was charged with this, but the government never had to prove this flimsy allegation because Cohen agreed to a multi-count plea deal (in part to prevent his wife from being charged with bank fraud), which included an excessive campaign contribution as part of the plea deal menu.

To turn this into a crime by Trump is even more farfetched. A candidate can contribute all he wants to his own campaign. Hence, Trump legally could have just paid Stormy Daniels the $130,000 himself. But he didn't want his name on a check to a porn star who was, in effect, legally extorting him for her silence. So Cohen arranged to have the money paid via a staw corporation, using money he essentially loaned to Trump. That also is perfectly normal and legal.

The only possible crime by Trump would be some sort of conspiracy between Trump and Cohen for Cohen to violate campaign laws. But that would require proof that Trump had knowledge that Cohen's payment to Daniels was a campaign violation. Intent to break the law is required. Cohen's testimony today virtually proved that Trump had no such intent. Cohen testified that he himself never considered whether the payment to Daniels could be a campaign law violation -- he just never thought about it -- and he further testified that, as Trump's lawyer on the matter, he never advised Trump about any potential illegality.

For all the sturm and drang -- much of it uninformed -- that will ensue on cable news and social media, I don't see anything in Cohen's testimony today that could reasonably be interpreted as an impeachable crime or an abuse of power committed by Trump in his capacity as president.

Yep, we've known since long before he took office that Trump is a liar, a conman, and a cheat. There's no big reveal so far.

That's the great thing about it all- there is no need for one.

Trump will be brought down by (his illegal) business as usual.

So... no collusion then. Cohen admitting that he has never been to Prague is the nail in the coffin for the Steele dossier. AOC's diversion to "property tax fraud" marks the pivot in a witch hunt. If I'm not the first one you hear this from, let me be the first one to tell you that this angle is a dead end, and here's why:

In addition to the fact that this is not an impeachable offense, it's simply not true. A private individual cannot devalue his own property. That is up to the tax assessor. I have PERSONALLY gone to my tax assessor's office and have appealed for a property devaluation. It required documentation, a letter and legal representation. If we as landowners could devalue our own property, I'm fairly certain we would all value it at $1. Or less.

This property valuation can easily be obtained by IRS and city records. Not by asking Michael Cohen in a made-for-TV "interrogation." THEY KNOW this will not get any traction for impeachment. The real angle here is to drive his approval numbers down. But they are overplaying their hand because they gave up on collusion and made a huge left turn, which shows that they're just trying anything at this point to see what sticks to the wall.

They can't even do that much, because there's not even a wall yet.

Yes, that should be the major headline out of this cartoon farce of a hearing.

For two and a half years we have been hearing nothing but Russia collusion, Russia collusion, Russia collusion . . . x 1,000,000 . . . from left wing Democrats, all the politicized media and their partisan pundits, the low information followers of the Mueller investigation, and all the left wing others afflicted by Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Never mind that both the Senate and House committees have issued reports finding no evidence of Russian collusion by Trump or his campaign. Never mind that none of Mueller's ticky-tack indictments for process crimes, meaningless show indictments of Russian actors beyond U.S. jurisdiction, or the conviction of Manafort for decades-old financial crimes have anything to do with, or provide any evidence of, Russian collusion by Trump or his campaign.

Now, here, finally, in front of a carefully orchestrated political circus hearing, we finally have Trump's ultimate long-time insider, his chief Machiavellian "fixer", his Mafia-like consigliere -- Michael Cohen. And what does Cohen say under oath about Russian collusion? This:

"Questions have been raised about whether I know of direct evidence that Mr. Trump or his campaign colluded with Russia. I do not."

That unambiguous statement should be the headline today in every news outlet that has been beating the Russia collusion drum incessantly for 2 1/2 years. But, of course, it won't be, because it contradicts their anti-Trump narrative and agenda.

Just like I pointed out to the QB, it’s interesting that when you see something he says that you like, you emphasize that he’s under oath. But when you see something he says that you don’t like, it’s well he’s lied before... he’s nothing but a liar.

Are you willing to agree he’s lying about nothing? After all, he’s under oath. He’s experiencing the penalties of lying under oath and would be subject to further penalties for further lies.
