Really fun reading CAM thread. Unsure if CAM knew answer, but his posts lead me to believe he may have. Hope his coyness will have him create more discussion/speculation on the league.
Phoenix= Saw the answer in a post. Look to SLOVYDAL post for confirmation.
Detroit= Also saw answer in post. What have I said we need, fits our up tempo, and is young? BTW, we will announce this signing tomorrow.

Yes, SFO, I knew the answers. But after your tactics last year, can you blame me for being gun-shy? Even your bobblehead, which I have in my collection of 50+ bobbleheads, agrees with me.

So you'll be announcing it here first, right SFO?

What the hell is Stanley doing in Russia if not signing a new prospect?
Everybody else is working on getting better while Blaze is sitting on her ass or off to a tropical island sipping on some rum.
I said Tatiana Shchegoleva, but I sure hope not!

RFA Question - If a RFA signs an offer sheet, does the matching period begin from the date of signature, the date of announcement, or another date (ie once signed, is the "former" team immediately notified by the player, league or "new" team).
So for example, if the player discussed in the "CAM thread" is a RFA, and as SFO said, the deal is done, has the matching period begun?

The matching period (10 days) begins when the league recieves a signed offer sheet.

OK, this board heard it first. The SHOCK will be announcing later today that IRINA OSIPOVA has signed.

SFO, if you are concerned about the free flow of information, perhaps you should look to your posts from last year. Clearly, the Brigade has more info than others due to access to players and management. But your accusatory post last year, claiming a trade was sabotaged due to the posting of a rumor, has had a chilling effect on the information being shared. You knew the reasons the trade didn't go through, but you decided to make a post blaming me for the failure of a trade to go through to draw out my source and determination if the Brigade's information was good. Yes, we fell for it. But don't sit there and claim information isn't being shared without recognizing your own accountability for us being gun-shy.

Not bad... Been monitoring her since the Olympics. So who got the free trip to Israel to co-sign the papers?

There seems to be a misconception that I have been fishing for information. Not this time. I came armed with facts. The entire purpose of starting this thread was to measure the scope of this board. What have I found out?
Most of the players from the ESPN board are here, the site is a bit more cumbersome to use in viewing , and real time information is not what it used to be.
I got a spelling lesson from CAM in learning how to spell Phoenix, but the Phoenix story is still a mystery to you all. |
Well from this discussion, the main observation of interest to me is that the board has few fans to provide inside information from Detroit. Charlotte and San Antonio would be the other under-represented cities.
I'm not sure what information you like to fish for. This board has a few dedicated Stephen A. Smith-Type Insiders, and the rest could be described as STHs who take full advantage of chatting with management at functions, and Analysts/Virtual GM'ers who often focus on their favorite teams as well as the league as a whole.
I guess I would fall into the A/V catagory... So here's my analysis of the uncovered situation:
We know that Phoenix made a move.
We know from SFO that it would be considered important.
We know that the biggest realistically-movable Free Agents on the market are Tan Smith, DeMya Walker and Sheri Sam.
We know from Whisenant that Sacramento is having serious cap issues.
Phoenix has no use for another SF, so it is probably Smith or Walker, either of which would be good.
I know from my personal opinion of the team that Rebekkah Brunson isn't ready to replace Tangela, and either way, Tan's too big of a player to just let go. However, if they re-sign DeMya, they'll likely just go into 2005 with the same roster as they did in 2004, with the same problems (no shooting, no true SF) that you could say kept them from playing in Connecticut. Moreover, Katie Smith will be back and L.A.'s rookie bench will be more experienced and DeLisha will be healthy.
So, that leaves the most likely possibility that Phoenix signed DeMya to a RFA contract, which Sacramento has 10 days to match.
I am not sure what the protocol is for reporting this in the papers. I had assumed that nothing would be reported until it's a done deal, so DeMya's teammates and the Monarchs fans wouldn't be jerked around emotionally. For example, if Sacramento matches, people are going to question why she wanted to leave at all.
...Yeah, I remember when former GSW Marc Jackson signed a RFA to go to the Houston Rockets, then got matched. Man, that got ugly. Sat on the bench all of the following year then traded to Minnesota for a 2nd round pick in ~2009.

I have searched the net and can't get any info on this gal other than she was on the Bronze Medal winning Russian Olympic team in Athens.
Anybody else have any luck finding her? I guess we will know more soon enough.

Yeah, that was a power move too. They sure look like they are tooling up. They are not just looking to go deep in the playoffs, they want it all. Their bench is starting to look like a beast._________________ (¯`v´¯

I gotta say I didn't see this coming. She'll be a project.
I've been watching Osipova this season a lot. She's your classic soft euro, but doesn't use the 15 foot jumper much. She's a great passer and finishes well around the basket. She's really tall and a great shot blocker, but the posts in the W will push her over easily. Ayana Walker completely outplayed her on Monday (but not in previous meetings). But if her defender pays attention and keeps her out of the paint, she's not a factor.

Yeah, Osipova is pretty soft from what I can recall but hey, you got your 6'5 + backup centre. |

She was starting for the Russians just because Baranova was in the doghouse for not skipping the W season. She's their 4th best post, behind Baranova Shchegoleva, and Stepanova (in that order).
