Sky "not retaining" her as both coach and GM.

I have great appreciation and gratitude for the leadership Pokey brought to our franchise,” said Sky owner Michael Alter. “ She took a perennial non playoff team and made us a contender. Pokey is as knowledgeable and hard working as anyone in basketball. I’m thankful we had the opportunity to work together closely for the past six years and I wish her well in her future endeavors.”
Chatman’s tenure was highlighted by two important franchise firsts: a first-ever playoff appearance in 2013 and a trip to the WNBA Finals in 2014.
"I want to thank the incredible fans of Chicago, my staff and all of the players for their hard work and dedication in helping to grow the franchise,” said Pokey Chatman. “I am proud of what we were able to accomplish, and appreciative of the opportunity given to me by Michael Alter." |

Has San Antonio found a new coach yet?
If the Dallas job comes open, she might be an interesting fit... |

Why is there any reason to think Anne Donovan could mentor Imani Boyette?
And I wonder if Alter will hire one person to do both jobs. My guess would be "yes" as it's cheaper, and there's no evidence Chicago will ever be a money-making franchise.

Where does Pokey land after this? Does another WNBA team take a look at her as an HC? Assistant?
Is Azzi possibly looking at a WNBA gig?

K.Bone made the all-star team under Donovan.
To best honest,i'm not really a Donovan fan. However,I do think she would be an excellent coach/mentor for Boyette.
Donovan head coach ? No....assistant coach ? Yes.

On a more serious note, my philosophy is you never let go of a coach unless you know for sure you can get someone who is better, so I am interested in what happens.

So for those who follow Chicago a lot closer than I do, is this a surprise or expected?
Was there some big issue that drove this, or just a matter of getting stale?

In my opinion this was expected. Pokey was getting stale on her use of the forwards.

Either Pokey goes or I go.... sorta like Fowles but a little worse?
Pokey brought Ruth Riley to CHI. I wonder how well they hit it off. Pokey to SAN? They could probably do worse. Or is Pokey gone for good this time?

I am wondering if assistant coach Christie Sides saw it coming as she left the Sky earlier this month to become an assistant coach at Northwestern. Or maybe her leaving was a sign that Chatman was rubbing people the wrong way.
I don't think Chatman did a bad job this year, and actually the reverse, the Sky seemed to do well. They beat Atlanta in the playoffs without Delle Donne (Although Cooper did seem to help them out with that zone defense), and won a game against the eventual champions without her. The draft pick of Boyette looks real good for the GM part.
Fowles wanting out could have been a part of "losing the players" being a reason. But Fowles could have just been chasing a championship.

She's good with tall players. TSB improved under her; LJ learned from her, though it's hard to quantify how much a coach can make someone like LJ better; Wolters looked more W-ready during that one year in Indiana.

I think the way Chicago played in the post season without EDD was pretty good and forced Pokey be more creative on offense, and prove that they ARE capable of having a balanced attack.
