Wasn't that already a musical film?

The Producers is coming out in December, and filming has -- I am pretty sure -- already begun on a Hairspray film.

Hairspray and the Producers were both films that were made into Broadway musicals. Both had music, but neither were "musicals." The new film versions will be adaptations of the Broadway versions, with the same soundtracks.

They join "Little Shop of Horrors" as the only ones to take the movie-play-movie route.

I haven't seen it mentioned, I think because the musical used the book as source material much more than any of the films that had come before. Little Shop, Producers and Hairspray were original stories the first time they were on screen.

Actually, "Little Shop of Horrors" was a stage musical first and Ellen Greene reprised her role as Audrey for the film version. I would die to finally see a movie version of "Dreamgirls". Love it. Also, only three days till "Rent" I cannot wait to see it.

Yep, former Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson is going to play one of the girls (that part was SUPPOSED to go to Fantasia).

I live for the day "Wicked" comes to film!! I would love for Jekyll & Hyde to be on film (yes, I know there are already TWO J&H movies), but the musical needs to have Linda Eder in it (although I doubt it).

I'm REALLY looking for "Wicked" to 'defy gravity' and I'm SO there on Wednesday for "Rent". I gotta support my girl Idina Smile

There are many more than two. Nearly twenty according to IMDB.

Ragtime and Wicked would be top choices for me. I have not seen Wicket yet, but bought the original cast recording (after reading Keira and Matty's comments a couple of weeks ago about the show). I may wear out the CD before Christmas.

I was going to go see Rent on Thanksgiving, but may have to go Wednesday night (not sure I can wait until Thursday).

Nope. "Little Shop" was original a schlocky B-movie released in 1960. That film was adapted into the Menken and Ashman musical that was then made into the Rick Moranis film. The first movie was an original story developed for the film. And it was Ellen Greene, not Degeneres Very Happy

I am heading to "Rent" on Wednesday. I am so excited I can hardly stand it.

Didn't see "Ragtime" but Audra McDonald is a pretty darn good singer!!! Wasn't Stokes in Ragtime too?? I think he was!!

Anyhoo, glad to know we have another Wicked fan in th house! I can't rave enough about this show! I didn't get to see Kristin, Norbert or Joel Grey from the original cast, but everyone else was there. I was too impressed with Idina!

Rent after work on Wednesday baby!! I can't stand it! I'm too excited!

I just saw an off broadway musical called "Altar Boys" about a catholic boy band, it would make a very funny movie!
Catchy tunes too like "God put the rythm in me" and "Jesus called me on my cell phone" Wink
It's not as sacreligiuos as it sounds, it was just a cute harmless show Wink

Jesus is on that mainline, tell him what you want.
You gotta call him up and tell him what you want

Some of it goes like this
Quote:

Jesus called me on my cell phone
The clearest call I've ever heard
No roaming charges were incurred

Dam, I need a better memory, there are some very clever lyrics...although all through out the show I couln't help but think how Cam would have loved these boys Wink ...Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham (he's jewish;)

I'd love to see that original "Little Shop." Know if it available for rental?
