Isn't JJanuary injured, and suspendable?
Too bad about Cooper. Libs, Dream, Fever, SAS could take an early flyer.

I hate to be the height police, but if Banham is 5'9, there is no way Tuck is 6'2.

January was injured early in the college season, but she recovered in time for the end of Big East season. (Yay.)

Outside of international players, is Banham the only WNBA player to have never played In the NCAA tourney?

I don't think Brunson ever made it to the NCAA tournament.

No. There have been quite a few. Rebekkah Brunson, for example, has had a very successful WNBA career despite never playing in an NCAA tournament.

This would be my starting lineup:
G-Thomas
G-Bentley
C-B.Jones
F-J.Jones
F-Thomas
J.Jones doesn't have the frame to wrestle with opposing centers without succumbing to fatigue. What connecticut needs is a banger.B.Jones is the perfect player to complement J.Jones, and vice versa.Jonquel has the height, length, and shot blocking ability that Brionna Lacks. While BJ has the size & strength needed to push people around in the paint.Connecticut made the right pick when they selected Jones, she fills a void.I see Jones finishing top 5 in the rookie voting. And I wouldn't be surprised if Connecticut made the playoffs.

Why not send Bentley to the Lynx for Alexis Jones to make a little bit harder for the announcers? Bentley just doesn't seem to fit here.

I agree, and disagree......Bentley's not the best fit as the starting sg.However, she would be the perfect 6th woman.Unfortunately, connecticut doesn't have a adequate option to replace Bentley in the starting lineup.

January quietly making her mark at Sun camp
http://www.theday.com/connecticut-sun/20170501/january-quietly-making-her-mark-at-sun-camp
Quote: |
"She has a good basketball IQ," Sun coach Curt Miller said about January. "She's a rugged player. … She's handling the pressure (starting point guard) Jasmine (Thomas) can put on her. Being a rookie point guard is not always a fun experience and she's really handled it well. She's made an impression."
Connecticut selected January with the 28th overall pick (third round) in April's WNBA Draft. Miller believes she was a potential second-round pick had she not broken her right index finger in game against Georgetown last Dec. 28. |
Quote: |
The odds are always against any WNBA rookie who wasn't drafted in the first round. A team won't luck into a star in the later rounds like other professional sports. |
Quote: |
"She was probably the best post-up point guard in the country," Miller said. "You just don't see a lot of 5-7 point guards in the WNBA posting up, but she has that in her game." |
Quote: |
Notes
• Second-year forward Morgan Tuck is back playing five-on-five at practice after having a minor procedure to remove debris from her knee on April 12. … Starting off-guard Alex Bentley is still dealing with a sprained right ankle and is in a walking boot. She'll be checked mid-week, Miller said. … Post Lynetta Kizer is expected to arrive late this week after finishing her overseas commitments. The Sun traded for Kizer during the offseason. Connecticut will have to waive a player once she arrives to adhere to the league's 15-woman preseason roster limit. |
Wow, Tuck is healing fast. Might they be pushing it?
Anybody else think they're selling January here in the hopes that somebody else will pick her up?

TOTALLY agree that is what's happening. When Kizer arrives, January will probably be gone unless they sever ties with Pederson or Adams first.

There's no need for D.Adams.......Kizer,Jones,Jones,and Tuck can fill the 4/5 positions.A.Thomas can also play 8-12 minutes per game at pf.....connecticut will be in the running for worst defensive team in the league. The sun had the 3rd worst defensive fg% and gave up the 3rd most point last season.
The lost of Chiney will hurt the sun on defense.
B.Jones biggest struggle will be on the defensive end.
Banham isn't known for her defense.
Tuck isn't the best defender.
Bentley's undersized at sg.
Keeping Adams,Pedersen or Faris is a waste of a roster spot.

I definitely think January is good enough to play in the WNBA. Unfortunately she'll probably never get a chance like so many other players.

Maybe Hamson gets that last spot over someone like Gray.
PG: JThomas/Banham
SG: Bentley/Stricklen/CWilliams
SF: AThomas/Tuck
PF: Kizer/Adams
C: JJones/BJones/Hamson
