What happened? She had a three game lead in the third set so I figured it was over and changed channels. It looked at that point like the Belgian had basically quit.

Flipkens woke up and got it to a tiebreaker. The crowd got behind her in a big way and she pulled it out.

With Williams out, it's really Kerber's Gold to lose right now. The top half is basically a bunch of unknowns, one of which will at least win silver. Hoping Monica Puig of Puerto Rico can get by Siegemund(GER) and win a medal. USA's Madison Keys is still in this, hopefully she can get by Kerber in the semis & bring home the Gold.

American Madison Keys advances to the semifinals after today's easy win over Kasatkina(RUS) 6-3 6-1. She'll play Kerber in the semis. The other semifinal is between Kvitova(CZE) & Puig(PUR).

Monica Puig upsets Kerber in the gold medal match 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and wins Puerto Rico's first ever gold medal. Congrats!

also, Madison Keys lost the bronze medal match to Kvitova.

Jack Sock & Steve Johnson won the bronze in men's doubles. In mixed doubles, it'll be an All-American gold medal match ft. Jack Sock & Bethanie Mattek-Sands versus Venus Williams & Rajeev Ram.

It's worth noting that Venus Williams is the first woman to win a medal in all three disciplines, alongside winning her fifth Olympic Medal. Her success is unmatched in the Open Era--with Serna only capturing 4 medals.
