did you know . . . you can use google as a dictionary? simply type in the search field define: yourword, and it'll show you a bunch of definitions, plus some valuable links.

for example, when you do define: obtuse, this is what shows at the top of the page:

- of an angle; between 90 and 180 degrees
- of a leaf shape; rounded at the apex
- lacking in insight or discernment; "too obtuse to grasp the implications of his behavior"; "a purblind oligarchy that flatly refused to see that history was condemning it to the dustbin"- Jasper Griffin
- dense: slow to learn or understand; lacking intellectual acuity; "so dense he never understands anything I say to him"; "never met anyone quite so dim"; "although dull at classical learning, at mathematics he was uncommonly quick"- Thackeray; "dumb officials make some really dumb decisions"; "he was either normally stupid or being deliberately obtuse"; "worked with the slow students"

tomorrow: finding your packages

that's really cool. We've been showing the kid online dictionary usage and that is really easy, thanks bibb.

good one bibb, I've been using

definition: obtuse

it gives links to different dictionaries, and a lot of useless info Smile define works much better.

No mention of the jammer under obtuse? Hmm. I thought I'd paid my dues. Confused

did you know . . . you can track packages from such delivery services as fedex and ups by simply typing the tracking number in google's search field? it's true.

simply type your tracking number, such as IZ10234TYX9597823564, in the search field. each numbering structure is unique, so the carrier will already be known.

tomorrow: calculations

Ta. You have no idea how many people ask me what the word "snark" means (it's in one of my online profiles). Now I know how to easily point them to a definition.

did you know . . . (and i swear i'm not being paid for this) . . .

that you can do calculations in the google search field? yeah.

you can do simple calculations, such as 172 + 595

you'll get 172 + 595 = 767

but what i use it for is conversions (and we americans are pitifully ignorant of how the rest of the world is counting). for example, you can do:

140 miles in kilometers

you'll get:

140 miles = 225.30816 kilometers

you can convert all sorts of things, from foreign currency to cooking measurements. the list is really quite full, so here's the google page that fills in the details:

http://www.googleguide.com/calculator.html

tomorrow: grab bag

Unfortunately, this opens up a world of places [hah!] to those who don't understand significant digits. And then they whine because science isn't working the way Google said it would. Evil or Very Mad
