The storyline once again seems to be surrounding the Williams Sisters as they march towards an inevitable (?) Semi-Final matchup. The defending Champion, Serena, has had moments of concern--but she has shown some strong form up to the Fourth Round. Another American, Shelby Rogers, has stolen Serena's thunder as she has swept her way into the quarterfinals despite being one of the last direct entries in to the draw. World #108, Shelby Rogers, has knocked off Petra Kvitova, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Karolina Pliskova en route to the quarterfinals. The American success in Paris continues with the sensational run of 35 year old Venus Williams, who has advanced to the 4th Round for the first time in Paris since 2010. History would be made if Venus managed to snatch a title from the grasp of the youth--as Roland Garros is the only major title that Venus lacks. Her best result was a finals appearance 14 years ago in 2002, where Serena managed to defeat her older sister.

The Roland Garros Draw has provided some intrigue--in part due to the absence of some big names. Maria Sharapova is currently serving a suspension due to using an illegal drug. Caroline Wozniacki is absent due to an injury. Then there have been the crazy upsets. Victoria Azarenka was dealt a case of Deja Vu, as she lost to Karin Knapp in the first round--a player who had beaten Azarenka 6-0 6-1 in 2007 at the same tournament. Australian Open Champion Angelique Kerber also fell at the first hurdle, as Kiki Bertens continues to ride an impressive winning streak into the 4th Round of Roland Garros.

The best chances for preventing a Williams victory, perhaps lie in the formidable prowess of Spaniard Garbine Muguruza--or perhaps it will be former Finalist Simona Halep sweeping her way to her first title. If Samantha Stosur loses (and she trails Simona Halep as of writing) the only players left in the draw with a Grand Slam Title to their name will be the Williams Sisters--once again.

Serena whipped again.

Loved how she stood and watched the lob hit the line to lose the championship. Well done.
